Re: Undertray
Dave, you don't want one of these! They trap water and grit between the tray and subframe, and cause it to rot.

Quite true, not just on XM's, but they do improve noise emission and aerodynamics noticably so I would want one.robert_e_smart wrote:They trap water and grit between the tray and subframe, and cause it to rot.
Just add spacers to keep it from contacting the subframe and it won't trap water...rubber door stops cut in half work very well.

Re: Undertray
I like the thinking with the spacers.
i have been hameriting the sub frame today so should be ok on the rust side of things!
Ill be getting some wing nuts like i have on the xantia for easy access, im sure it will be on and off like a yo yo!

Re: Undertray
I would like one too if someone has a pile, my painted engine keeps getting all splashed with road crud, might be a little tricky to post though

Re: Undertray
I hate undertrays, such a hassle come service time!
Neither of our Xms have ever had an undertray, i dont think 2.0s came with them and the 2.1TD hasnt got one fitted, so thats maybe got lost at some point.
C5 undertrays i hate, they are held up with little flat looking nails which simply just push and and look as if they are just going to pull straight back out again, these also hold in the lower section of the bumper under the car. Ive lost a few of those now so i put some screws in, better but not great.
Still, id rather have one than not have one, cant imagine too many XMs still have theirs though.
Chris.

Re: Undertray
Yes the 2.0 never had them but the engine bay gets in such a state, may be easier to break out the fibreglass and make one with some air vents in it that is easy to remove too.

Re: Undertray
Our 2.0 doesnt usually go out in bad wether
so that solves that problem
Though if anyone does have a stock of them, can i please be third on the list for one for the 2.1TD
Chris.

Re: Undertray
If you really can't find one buy a sheet of 3mm ABS plastic and make one.
iirc the Xantia 1.9 had a wide slit with a downward wind deflector just in front of the engine, to act as an exhaust for radiator heat.
