Selling off one (or bits

) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Most of the issues that are left to sort a new owner would take on the chin -
but give it a clean out man . . . it makes all the difference!

No it can't. Due to the new road tax rules, you can't tax it for the new owner. They need to tax it themselves before driving away.

Not entirely correct but then I have a decent bit of experience with the new system and its current pitfalls and loopholes
The inside and outside will likely get a very very good clean sometime soon as well but being the holidays timing is always fun but the car is here for anyone who wants to snag it up before it gets tarted up

Well, yes, you could give the new owner money towards the tax but if you tax it while it is in your name, all that'll happen is that the tax will be refunded to you and the car will show as untaxed once the logbook is processed.

No it won't. And why would I tax it in my name?
I've done it twice before without issue. Can even do it online or on the phone
All I ask is that the new owner sends the money to me as a non refundable deposit and I do it there and then. Or they can do it themselves. It's simple enough to do

Yes it will. Tax is now linked to the owner, not the buyer. If the V5 isn't in your name, a refund will end up being issued to whoever's name is on the V5 when the V5 is processed. Having sold a car in October, I know this is what happens. New owner can tax online, via the phone or via Post Office.
Ah, hold on. Are you selling as a trader rather than a private person?

You sold one car... I've sold a few and know exactly how it works now.
What your suggesting could not work as until the dvla receive the v5c updated the owner wouldn't change.
The new owner or someone on the new owners behalf can get the vehicle taxed for them. 1/2 the people at the end of the phone in dvla don't even know this properly.

Ah, there you are then. It's hardly surprising that even the DVLA don't know. I've yet to see that actually communicated anywhere and believe me, I did a lot of research on this. (I have since managed to find details quoted elsewhere, so you have prompted me into looking into it yet again!).

It's ok, like all new government changes to apparently save money, some details are never conveyed at all if correctly when they do.
You can't sell the car with tax, doesn't mean that you can't tax a car for a new owner or tax it in a way that the new owner can take whatever tax is left on it... Nice little loophole
