A serious 2.1?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I thought the 2.0i no-turbo used the Be3 as well. My first XM was a 2.0Si and that had weak synchromesh right from new.

Yes Will, I see your correct, I have the Peter Russak hand book with me, and the BE3 is on all four cylinder petrols...

ME on V6 and diesels turbo engines and BE3 on 2.2 D (not in the UK though)

I've had two manual XM gearboxes fail, one a BE3, on a petrol, as Will said, lost 5th.

The manual box on my first 2.1 went as well, totally screwed, got stuck locked into certain gears, needed double clutching to get from 3-4, had to go from 5 to 2 to shift down, had to first shift into reverse before selecting 1st by the very end

That said, other than me, I've never heard of anyone else encounter dead manual boxes, I must just be unlucky :)

Ive just chucked a BE3 from a xantia in the boot of the scrapping xantia thats current.

That was also stuck with just 3rd and 4th gears only!

I've got a 6 month old l200 with a whine in the box and a selector that's started jamming half in/half out of second. Only 9500miles, nevermind

Its six months old, and I'm very gentle with her, OK she pulls things but that's why I bought it. Anyhow, not Citroen and I've yet to take it back to the dealer for a vetrdict.

I replaced a Be3 on a BX because it was tired.

We had a fleet of BX at one place I worked. One of the gearboxes threw the differential bevel gear shaft out of the the side of the box...mind you, it was doing a J turn at the time...

I must admit I did have a CX box fail on 5th, no synchro whatsoever, it was a fairly straightforward repair without even taking the box out, remove the o/s wing liner and you are looking at the end of the box, remove the end plate and you are looking at 5th gear. Quite an easy job apart from relocating the ball bearings in the hub on reassembly, they shot out powered by the springs about a dozen times before I finally conquered it.
