Success!

New MOT achieved for no extra expense! Great relief all round! It did not come without a bit of a struggle as it initially failed on service braking effort; I queried this since the condition of the brakes was passed as acceptable all round (as I believed they were) and because they failed my last one for the same reason. The tester went away and retested the car's braking effort "manually" taking into account the fact the parking brake operated on the front wheels and all was well.

As expected, however, there is a long list of advisories, none of which cause concern; I do believe that many garages use these as a marketing tool nowadays.

The car's reward for this magnificent success was to have been refurbished alloys all round, but the Polo falling out with its window regulator earlier in the week has put paid to that. Pity, some nice wheels would make a big difference to the look of the car.

Now I need to get my cataracts sorted, starting on Friday and I can look forward to some wonderful wafting miles. I do hope pride doesn't come before a fall...
Regards

Rob

Had a drive today for the first time since my eye implants - it's great! My distance vision is probably better than it has ever been since birth! The optician I saw yesterday for a follow-up reckoned it was close to 20/20 and I only had the second eye done last Friday. The near vision is improving but more slowly, so I am trying reading glasses as an interim measure.

I still need to take it easy for some time, which is a bit irritating - think I might have to spend some money at a car wash soon.

I suppose no news is the best news really! The XM and my new eyes have just completed a 600 mile jaunt to visit Mum in Stroud and all has gone well.

Image

The picture was taken in Chipping Campden where I grew up in the police station; my bedroom window looked out onto the 17th Century market hall.

For the second time in succession, however, the Polo has spat its dummy out the moment I have gone away: last time it was a window regulator, this time it is the wipers (front and back) refusing to switch off. Investigations will begin tomorrow. Why can't Volkswagen make reliable cars lkie the XM?

Didn't see much of interest on the trip other than a crusty Dyane and a white BX (TZD I think) Estate, both were very close to Mum's.

Well, the old dear has spat her dummy out.

Two unrelated problems have surfaced at the same time. Firstly the brake doseur valve has sprung a leak leading to much dribbling down the wheel arch liner and marking of territory. I have one from a 2.1 diesel that I believe to be good, are they likely to be interchangeable?

Secondly the radiator has finally let go. Any ideas where a replacement may be sourced and at what price? Is a recore the most likely way out of the problem, and again any ideas regarding costs?

Any and all help will be appreciated.
Regards
