Neil. Try using a heat gun to encourage the trim back into shape.

Sorry to pour cold water on the theories of the conspirators but, unless the scrotes put mittens on the screwdrivers, there are no scratches on the rubbers or the glass. My own thinking is that the glue will have been weak and moving the car from a warm, dry garage into the cold, damp air has affected it. Maybe, maybe not. I cleaned up the rubbers and glass and glued the offside back on with time set glue and just allowed the weak sun to do its job. It looks decent, without being perfect, but will need tidying up today. The nearside has pulled away more and some heat is going to have to be used to make it more malleable to stick down. The rubber on this side is not good anyway and would be best replaced.
I took the heater box out, pulled it apart and gave it a damn good clean. WD40 and 3 in 1 used liberally, put it back together and tested it - worked lovely. No whistle, no noise, just a smooth quiet motion. Fitted it back in, switched it on and the damn whistle is back.
Work has calmed down now and the plan is to get the underside done over the next couple of weeks - hopefully.
Get it de-rusted and de-gunged, subframe and wheel carrier shot-blasted, rust-proofed and waxoyled. Just need about three dry days to get it done before the test which is due in March.
But the immediate need is to get the gear linkages sorted. When I was collecting my Xantia I mentioned this to him and getting underneath to sort it. He told me to not be so bloody soft and to bring it down next week where they'll put it on the lift so I can have a proper look.

Neil, those window seals have distorted with the cold. My old Xantia was a nightmare for it.
Pound to a pinch of xyz they return to normal as soon as the weather warms a tad
Dont do what i did with my xantia and thought id prize it back to try to find out why and it started to crack.
As Will says try a heatgun...or just some nice hot water on them but they just take time to return to normal

One of my 3 Xms does the trim business at the exact same place, but one side only. It's cold-related. Always returns to normal shape.

Odd that a piece of synthetic 'rubber'/plastic would seem to expand or soften in the cold. You'd expect just the opposite.
Possible, I suppose, that years of exposure to sunlight UV has altered the structure of the material. If this only happens on one side of the vehicle, could that be a parked-up sunny side?
Odd.

The rubbers have gone back to norm which suggests a change in heat. The test is due April so a few checks to do, a service to conduct, and off we go for another year. The underneath hasn't been touched, despite my best intentions, but really does need sorting soon.
My Xantia sailed through the test today, and looking at the test certificate I've done just 5300 miles between mot's. No wonder the engine oil looks like new, but that's due for a change now. The door shuts look superb and once the paintwork gets a little polish on it she'll be sorted for another year.
