2.1 TD Parts Wanted
Hi, I need the pipe that goes from the turbo to the front exhaust pipe. It leaves the turbo, bends through 180 degrees and then turns thru 90 degrees, all in about 12 inches! Does anybody know if these pipes are a casting? If not I may be able to get mine welded. It has a heat shield round it so it is difficult to see clearly. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, Citroen want £281 + vat!!! Thx Kit

Hi Kit
Firstly welcome to the club. I may have one of these I will check tommorrow. I have a spare engine but dont know if it has the pipe.I know the one you mean because I had one crack a few years ago as someone had taken it off and not replaced the bracket that secures it to the bottom of the block - is yours missing?

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the welcome. The bracket is there but it may be broken. The previous owner had made up an exhaust system that did not fit too well that put a lot of strain on the front pipe connection.

Hi Peter,
I have now found one at a breakers for £30 which seems fair to me. With the number of 2.1TDs you are fostering perhaps you should hang on to yours. My thinking is, if you part with it, you will need it next week, if you keep it, you will never need it! But, if you would like to sell it let me know. By the way I notice that your RP numbers are not in sequence with first registration, is this because XM.s could be slow sellers or is there a more technical explanation?

Re: 2.1 TD Parts Wanted
Hi Kit
Seems you had a lucky find there, I couldn't find one when mine went, having had that experience I always make sure that the bracket is on and tight so its unlikely I shall need one unless of course I buy a car with a duff one, any way if you need it give me a shout.
You are quite right about the registrations, all the estates were registered in Jan '96 and are registered N---YBL, the hatch as you have noticed was registered in '95 but actually made after the red estate! I expect they were sitting in a field somewhere for several months, I bought a new radiator for one of the estates and wondered why they kept sending me the wrong one - there's the answer.

Re: 2.1 TD Parts Wanted
Hi Peter, Looks like I will have to take you up on your offer. The guys who had ' at least two' of the exhaust section I need are now saying they have taken one off, only to find the face of the flange is too corroded, they will take another one off and get back to me...... sometime. I had booked a slot with my local garage to fit it on Thursday but I think I will have to postpone that. Grrr. When would you have time to get yours off and could I have the bracket as well, just in case mine is damaged?
Cheers, Kit

Re: 2.1 TD Parts Wanted
Hi Peter,
What is this you are saying, "stops raining"? It seems to have rained here continuously since 5pm last Tuesday! The time is fixed in my memeory as I had just spent two days putting the roof timbers on a house that overlooks the entrance to Milford Haven. As I set off home, in the peugeot 205 convertible, the rain started and just goes on and on. I had to throw a tarpaulin over the XM and myself at the weekend to change the heater matrix. As usual Mr Haynes talks a load of nonsense. I am getting to quite like driving the little pug, especially as I have stoped the rain comming in on the passenger side. You have got me worried about fitting the pipe though, when I looked at it quickly last week it did not seem too awful, for a Citroen that is. Perhaps I will leave it to Steve, our local Citroen indy. It is his fault that I bought the car in the first place, I went to discuss the Ebay listing with him and as luck would have it, a customer was leaving with his Xm, and they both convinced me that I would be so lucky to drive an XM. Well yes, the driving part is wonderful, it's the time in between thats frustrating. By the way, one firm I worked for used a non conducting, clear as water liquid. At exibitions they would slowly lower a working colour television into an aquarium full of this stuff, and you could watch the picture whilst it was under "water", it certainly grabbed attention, didn't do much for the sound though!
Cheers, Kit

Re: 2.1 TD Parts Wanted
Hi Kit
The head was already off mine when the pipe was changed which made it a lot easier but it is very difficult to get to the turbo, its tight between the back of the engine and the bulkhead, then you have to get the bolts undone .......
but at least you dont have to take the turbo off - well hopefully not.
Once you get an XM sorted it can be very reliable, I fitted a new head gasket to my green one about three years ago and had done about 70,000 miles in it with no serious problems until my wife wrote it off a couple of months ago.
That non conducting liquid sounds interesting, perhaps you could fill the XM dot matrix displays with it to stop the contacts corroding.
I am installing a multifuel stove at the moment so will look at the engine when I have finished, hopefully later on today.
