Mk 1 2.1 estate

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Looks really tidy. I must say I've always struggled with the styling of the rear of the estates to the point where every time I see the back of one it gives me an unpleasant surprise.

I know what you mean, such a nice well thought about design in hatch form, such an awkward 'that's do' look to the estate, if I were to be kind about it I would say it looks functional. Having said that silver doesn't do it any favours, they look much better in a dark colour but that's just me.

If you want a real nasty surprise, get behind a Rover P6 Estate...

The SD1 Estate was rather better though, and Rover missed a trick against Volvo by never putting it into production. Only four were ever made.

As a silver estate owner, I have to agree with part of what's being said, the design (or lack thereof) at the back end is somewhat bland and it occurs to me that PSA at the time had one etate back end that they modified the dimensions of to suit whatever hatch/saloon they wanted to add loadspace to, the ZX estate for instance is broadly similar, and the 405 estate also looks even closer to it... Xantia however was rather better and more thought out.

I must defend the silver though, while it's no mandarin I feel it really rather suits the XM in estate guise, more so than hatch certainly & it helps make the car's backside look less vast at a glance :)

Wasnt that the story of brg and austin and rover etc.. the best ideas were never manufactured!! The allegro should of been a hatch. The princess should of been a hatch was eventually but was soon dead.. should the marina coupe been a hatch or good enough as a saloon?? The only car they seem to get right was the maxi .. 5 speed and a hatch..
