Front towing eye cover: Series 1
OK I haven't lost my marbles, I know that the chance of finding one of these going spare is zero.
I am wondering about borrowing one, laser scanning it and then getting new ones 3D printed.
I know B' all abut all this stuff but it seems very popular!!
Thoughts from more knowledgeable forum members?

I know I had one, at a festival in Derbyshire, back in May 2012 (I had to take it off/out, to get towed out of the mud). If I still have it; I'm happy to loan/sell

Re: Front towing eye cover: Series 1
Justin, I would be more than happy to buy and then do the 3D thingy bit if that is possible!
They seem to be like rocking horse poo and I would like to do my bit to help my fellow Series 1 owners who are similarly bereft.
If you find it then send me a PM and we can talk coin of the realm.

It would be a really good test-piece for a 3D print.

Re: Front towing eye cover: Series 1
Uh, I assume it is right! I have never seen one!!!! Many thanks for digging it out.
I am sure someone better informed than I can confirm that it is a Series 1 towing eye cover.
Given that it is do you have a price in mind?

I can confirm that it came from the front bumper of my 1993 SED auto (RP-6084). I was always led to believe that mine was a series 1cxprestigeauto wrote:

Re: Front towing eye cover: Series 1
Yes, that is a series 1 tow eye cover.
Series 2 covers are much bigger and handed.
Not really a suitable item for plastic printing which builds up from a flat surface.
The molten plastic must be supported as it sets so the shape as it builds up can have only very limited cantilevered out sections.
Dave-the-raves casting in a purpose made mould looks a better option if these have to be made.

Re: Front towing eye cover: Series 1
John, thanks for confirming it is the right part.
I know very little about 3D printing. Just seemed like something that could be done to remedy the shortage of this part. If you send it on its end then there is virtually no cantilevering? The straps can be attached later?
I would need to get the part and then get some quotes on having it printed. Could be stupidly expensive or could be a bargain. Happy to find out unless Dave-the-rave has it nailed and I am just reinventing the wheel.
