Selling off one (or bits

) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I wish you all the best with your latest project and it was interesting to hear about the engine-auto gearbox flex plate problem as the same thing has happened to my 1990 PRV V6 12v! Hopefully you will find it easier to source the new part you need being an ESJ and my replacement came from an enthusiast in France. With regards, Matthew T.
Thank you for the welcome. I'm so pleased to be back in the XM world. I remember meeting you at Cosford; that was a great day all round.
Now the good news: I have found a good 2.5 TD ram and pipes today at Mark's XM graveyard in Billericay. I have done a cross check on the part numbers with the ES9 V6 and the 2.5 TD and they are same so its all systems go. The plate is still available from Citroen UK and the price is just under £50!
When I get the car home I will start planning the dashboard swap but actually can't wait to get driving. So now I just need those early alloys and to sell that leather interior to help finance the whole thing and give me the garage space to park the car.

I can offer a half decent set of Speedlines?!
Rob
Thanks Rob; Do you mean the type fitted originally to the original V6 24 valve? If so I had these on my last ZPJ V6. Lovely but on one side of the car it looks like you are going very fast in reverse!

I am going for a 1989 look to the exterior with grey rubbing strips, door mirror casings and scuttle hence wanting a set of the very early wheels.
As a second choice to the early "technical" alloys, I quite like the wobbly web type (also made by Speedline as were the originals)

The early wheels are known as Speedline Italia.
Wobbly webs should be easy to source.

Hi James. Please keep us posted on the ram and pipes replacement. It will be useful to know that the 2.5 ram swaps over easily. I had the ram and pipes replaced on my car by BL Autos who just happened to have an old one hanging around the workshop! My car, which has done about 190K has been remarkably trouble free. The catalytic converter needed to be changed for the last MOT. I think that there was nothing left inside it! The regulator is weeping and could do with changing, but that's about it. Do change the oil in the autobox, it is a right pain and takes ages as you have to dribble the oil in through the breather hole! My next job is changing the spark plugs. By the way if you look up es9j4 on the web you gets lots of good hits from the peugeot coupe website.

When you are an expert at cambelts let you come over and change mine!!

Thanks Steve. The cambelts scare me! I intend to change the gearbox oil annually so need to learn how. I will let you know how we get on with the ram swap.
Thanks Dieselman for the name of the wheels.

If changing the HP20 ATF is an issue, why not fit a drain plug. Drill, tap, fit.

I think the issue is lack of dipstick rather than lack of drain plug Will, and the fact you can only change the filters if you remove and split the gearbox.

Don't be scared of the cambelt, I have done a few now, and with the later tensioner (which your car may have had from new), it is a job that requires only a little cursing (and a reasonable selection of tools).
You might consider opening up the transmission and replacing the filter, as at 50k miles, it has used about a third of its life.
Personally, I don't believe that changing the fluid prolongs the life of the transmission, because transmission failure is usually caused by a clogged filter, and the particles that clog the filter are going to get caught long before the fluid is changed and new fluid is not going to clean the filter.

I just don't get the point of spending money turning a S2 into a S1.

The point is that is is his car modify, and that's what he wants to do with it. There are worse things that could happen to it.
The only thing that worries me is the possibility that the complexities of connection an S1 dashboard into an S2 car will cause the project to be abandoned with the car in 500 pieces.
