Something for Neil!

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Very nice!!!! Just needs a whole cutting into it.

Seriously though the mouldings at the front are the part I really need as the later headlining is so different in this area.

Just need to get it up here now.

With it coming out of a lhd car there is one tiny flaw. Ideas folks???

Chances are that there are grab handle bolt holes threaded into both sides of a shell.
If so cut the holes in the head lining and add the fourth grab handle.
Just checked and all my Mk2 XM's have all 4 grap handles fitted.

I am glad you are happy with the headlining Neil that I would be pleased to bring to the National or Chevron Rallies. As confirmed by John you will need to cut holes for the fourth grab handle with the sunroof! With regards, Matthew T.

What are your plans Neil? Is your car missing a head lining?

I had a G reg XM that had a non factory fit sunroof. It had a sunroof fitted by Citroen UK I assume before it was a standard factory option.

It had a handmade headlining backing from fibreglass with the grey head cloth fitted to this.

The car headlining had been stripped of fabric by a previous owner Robert for some unknown reason and the sunroof was clearly fitted in the UK just like your early car. The later UK cars had a different design of headlining mainly due to the light fitting installed, hence it was necessary to find a replacement abroad. Hopefully it will be possible for Neil to adapt and use either the headlining or the cloth to effect a repair. I previously broke a 'G' reg car that I recall also had a retro-fitted sunroof and fibreglass headlining shell. With regards, Matthew T.

As Matthew says the headlining on my car is a long running saga from when I got it. (I still haven't had a definitive answer as to why he took it out apart from he didn't like it. ) Creating the sunroof hole will be fairly straightforward, but I'm not sure what to do with the holes for the grab handle until I see the headlining in the flesh as the whole point of this refurb has been to bring the car back to it's original spec.

The part I really need is the mouldings at the front for the light and the sun visors. It is obvious that the light is smaller but not so that the visors are longer and narrower and the moulding runs along the front of the sunroof.

I think that you will find that all RHD XMs had 4 grab handles, as they did not bother making a RHD headlining, and the front right holes were already there.

What I don't understand is how you will cope with the thickness of the sunroof mechanism (and the space that the open sunroof panel slides into), which causes a sunroof headlining to sit lower than a non-sunroof one.

I'm going to see that G reg car this weekend and can take some pictures of it for you if you like Neil.

I remember that the headlining was sagging on it and I reattached it with some carpet adhesive.

Are these pics any use to you? I also might have a spare light trim.

I look these when I dropped the headlining in mine to cure a sunroof drainage leak.

I think Neil might just end up using the fabric covering of the retrieved headlining as the shape of the sunroof headlining is somewhat different. As I recall the fibreglass shell is also still in place in Neil's car. With regards, Matthew T.
