Now I've got the headlining from Matthew and the rear subframe from Will new momentum to get the car done. Rang the garage, whose facilities I would be using, this morning to be told Not a chance in hell. We're rammed out, can't move.

Ah well just have to get on with the headlining and the underside will have to wait.

Hmmm. Best laid plans and all that. Gave the headlining a good clean yesterday aft and another one this afternoon but, although it does look better, it's obvious that all I'm doing is moving the muck around. :( Getting my brother's Vax out over the weekend, see if that will drag the muck out. If not then I know a good trimmer who will have some new fabric to suit.

Try giving it a good wash with some warm water and a biological clothes washing liquid. That should really pull the dirt out.

Mmmmmm. I hate to say it, but it was obvious that the previous owner was a smoker......
I hope the Vax works.

It must be possible to clean up with the right agent Neil and I am sorry it is not in better nick! Unfortunately there were not a lot of other options to chose from. Regards, Matthew T.

I think that a good steam clean will sort it out. Might also finish off the glue but you are OK with sticking headlinings back in!

Good luck.

I took the headlining up today but we decided not to use the Vax as it would, at the very least, mark the cloth, if not drag it from the board. So my brother said it could be cleaned - with some TFR, water, and a wall. :?

He gave me a squirty bottle with TFR in it to cover the headlining with whilst he went to sort the water out. Ten minutes later he comes back with the jet wash all ready to go - and duly blasts it. The crap that came off the cloth was unreal. (Apparently he does this with seats and carpets when they're ingrained with years of gunk). Repeated use of TFR and jet wash left it looking sad and forlorn, but after just one hour leaned against the wall you could see the difference. I left it there for the sun and gravity to work its magic. It'll probably want doing again as there are obvious marks on it but it looks a whole lot cleaner than when I took it up there.

TFR looks as if it's chiefly designed to take a solvent approach to removing oil, grease and other muck.
Bio clothes washing liquid (which contains an enzyme) takes a completely different approach, and digests both oil/grease base dirt, and water-soluble dirt.
It works extraordinarily well....will even clean a paint brush which been used in oil-based paint, without the need to reach for any solvent/turps. Will also clean Hammerite brushes, if just a minute amount of solvent is used first. Also a good substitute for Gunk, for engine and component cleaning.
Being solventless, it doesn't disrupt adhesives, and can be put down the sink.
Worth trying if you haven't.
