I need to know if the trim that runs around the interior of the sunroof is made of the hard but malleable rubber, found in more modern cars, or of a softer material type that is purely for show. How does it fix to the headlining and is it meant to be removable? Is it the same colour as the headlining or slightly off? Does the headlining come in just one colour?

Separately I've noticed that the sunroof is not solid in its case. It moves slightly when pressed and rattles when driven. Does the cassette it sits in have to be removed to sort it?

If the roof panel rattles in its mounting, then likely that the guide tracks need greasing. Either grease manually, or use one of the aerosol greases now available.
Left ungreased, sunroofs can chatter up and down in their tracks, particularly when closed. A Webasto trait.

Stupid question time. Is the Citroen UK sunroof on mine the same size as the sunroof used on the later BX's?

With not having a headlining to associate to, as it didn't come with one, there are points where this new headlining has made things so much easier (the front part) but has left other parts around the sunroof opening more educated guesswork. The trim around the inner of the sunroof aperture is proving to be a pain.

It was good to hear you are making some progress Neil and that the new headlining has been useful! With regards, Matthew T.

The tax is due at the end of the month so I've decided to take her off the road. She hasn't been used as much as I would have liked this year and she's not likely to see the open road during the winter months anyway.

The headlining is two steps forward, one step back, hit a brick wall - and repeat. What I thought would be the most difficult, aligning the grab handle holes, has actually turned out to be easy but the sunroof opening is a pain in the backside. I need the black plastic that sits under the headlining to provide a contour into the sunroof itself.

The gearbox linkages have seen better days and need replacing. I've finally got two original stubby linkages but the long one is going to have to be a callyfudge job. The long linkage will no longer hold onto the connection at the gearbox end as the rubber insert is shattered. The rubbers on the short linkages, on the other hand, are so hard that I'm struggling to get them off without proper access from underneath. As for sorting out the underneath of the car, I haven't even looked at that yet. :(

Due to time restraints and the car being a half hour drive from where I live it's unlikely I'll manage to get anything done until the new year. Not the best scenario but it is what it is.

Is the long linkage the one with the cap on the side of the rod and not end? I found a long one with side mounted cap if its worth trying neil..

The linkage is 250mm long, but has small caps on each end.

At a push, get any ball-joint socket and have it welded on to the rod at the correct length. These sockets are standard across many cars and I believe that gearbox is fitted to a number of French and possibly other European cars.
That rod is the one that translates gear-stick forward and backward movement.

The Dieselman is right again. :geek: I have managed to get a rod that has the correct end on it (2414 E4) for the gearbox but it will need splitting and welding onto the original rod (96 043 494). I just hope the rubber on the other end is okay. The problem is more a case of time and access. More things to do than I care to remember and lying on my brothers garage floor when I need a pit or a lift to really get at them.
