My thoughts, too. If the XM is so satisfying, what is it that tempts you to replace it?
(Promise not to try to dissuade you!)

Well done Rob for selling the BX to someone who will look after it.

I share Will's intrigue, it must be a good car to be causing you this angst. Is the new car in question as rare or rarer than a V6 XM?

In looking to put a new test on the XM a number of issues have come to light that mean it is now highly unlikely that I shall be having a change of chariot. But that's ok, really it is... :(

I have posted my most urgent needs in For Sale and Wanted but I shall repeat the request here just in case:

I need to replace the front to rear pipes on my V6 Series 2 Auto. According to the dealers they are either totally unavailable or are on back order to France with no timescale.

5270X7 Suspension 3.5mm X 3486mm
5270K8 Suspension 3.5mm X 3318mm
488550 Brake 4.5mm X 2757mm
488548 Brake 3.5mm X 3784mm

I am also told there are a couple of shorter pipes from the rear of the car that also need replacing but I don't have the part numbers for these yet.

Any help in sourcing these pipes will be appreciated.

The independent I use is no longer able to find someone to make these up locally. They are also far from cheap and so it looks like I shall be keeping the XM rather than passing my maintenance on to benefit someone else - unless they want to pay top dollar.
Regards

Rob

Hi Rob

PM me with details of where you and your garage are.
I might be able to make the pipes up in CuNi pipe.
Will make sure I can get replacement reels of CuNi so I retain some stock.
Doubt I have those sort of lengths in new or recovered steel pipe.

Citroen rules say pipes must be replaced as a complete length and not jointed.
Many of us and some Indy's have been putting in joints for many years without problems.
If you have no objections to this option then you need to find out your maintainers view on pipe joints.
It might make a great deal of difference on pipe length needing replacement and work involved.

That's great news Rob. Glad your keeping it. :D

Do we get to know what the other temptation was? ;)

You may not be surprised to learn it used to be Jim's. 😀

I can completely understand that temptation. :D These have been driving me mad for a while. Best exhaust note ever!
I really would love one myself. But having driven both, the XM is still the better option, it's just that little bit more special. And this is my opinion from driving Jims Xantia, probably that one... and your XM when he had it.
