R/H driveshaft, new, £20

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

R/H driveshaft, new, £20

Post by jamescarruthers » Wed Nov 25, 2015 8:08 pm

I got this driveshaft for £20, however, although it seems the right length it is much thinner than I was expecting. I have a 2.1 TD manual; I suspect that this is for a 2.0 petrol. ‎

I was assured that it was the right one for my car (send model, chassis number, etc.) so I can send it back, but I thought I'd offer it on here as it was such a good price.

This is the long, R/H driveshaft‎.

If anyone else wants it, they can collect from Cambridge or Stansted for £20 or I can post it at whatever that costs on top. ‎

Early TD shafts WERE thin but solid shafts, making the same or simmilar strength to later THICK Hollow shafts...

Keep it james, it IS correct for the year!

The car has thick shafts on now though. Will that be alright so you think-- L/H thick, R/H thin?

I only needed to replace the L/H, I just thought for £20, I might as well do the R/H too. So, I can live without this installed.

I'll see if it fits anyway. I think the mechanic said something about it not having enough teeth either, or the splined end was thinner too. I may have imagined that part of the conversation though.

I've done it and its fine, the tubular shafts are lighter than the thin solid ones so it would work better with the short one solid and the long one tubular but there won't be an issue, if your not happy and the splines are correct for an auto box you have a buyer waiting here anyway ;)

Dean, the splines are smaler than my manual gearbox. Does that indicate that it is for the auto box car or is there more information that you need to check that?

Anyway, it is definately for sale due to being incompatible with my 'box.

Still boxed up so I can post pretty quickly.

Auto boxes have bigger splined shafts, more splines but the outer CV joints are the same across the board, let me check my stock but I think I will have it off you anyway, will PM you tomorrow to confirm.

Thanks

On the PRV V6 the manual and auto shafts are interchangeable and I fitted some 2.0i turbo shafts on one of my 12v! Regards, Matthew T.
