Wanted: Manual Gear Knob

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted: Manual Gear Knob

Post by Dieselman » Thu Jun 09, 2016 8:54 pm

Has anyone got a plastic manual gear knob they can part with?

If no-one has, does anyone have a wooden knob available?

Unfortunately I have used all my spare plastic gear knobs Will, as they tend to split, which I guess is your problem! I might be persuaded to part with my single wooden gear knob if you are desperate! Regards, Matthew T.

I've ordered a new one this morning, it will be ready for collection by Monday, possibly even tomorrow.

It was good to hear that the gear knobs are still available new Will and I know the fitting is the same on early Xantias at least and presumably some other models? The later Xantias had a similar but fatter version. I also acquired a new auto lever that also fits the ZX Dean and I hope you got yours changed! Please let us know how you get on Will and dare I ask the cost! Regards, Matthew T.

The original Black knob, p/n 96 078 490 is NFP, so AFAIK, not available, but the later (since RP5285) Hurricane Grey knob, p/n 2403 E0 is a stock item.

Only a Nerd would know the difference between a Black and Hurricane Grey knob.

Price £19.38.

I've just this second received a text to say the part is at the local Peugeot dealer... :)

You could always rub in a bit of boot polish Will and many thanks for confirming the price. Perhaps you could also post a photo once fitted and I might be tempted to buy a couple while stocks last! Regards, Matthew T.

The colour really isn't noticeable and is correct for any car post 29th April 1991 anyway.

This was needed for my 1992 car anyway, which had previously had an earlier black knob fitted. See pic for colour. What you can't see is the large chunk that fell out of the other side the same day as the little chunk gone in the picture.

I wouldn't be too concerned about availability, this part was used on a number of Citroen models, including the Berlingo. Online searches revealed prices as high as 200euro with a low of 44euro, all plus delivery, so £19.38 delivered to my local Peugeot dealer Next Day, seemed reasonable.

That is very smart Will and many thanks and I guess the other option would be to hunt down scrap Berlingos etc.!! Regards, Matthew T.
