I can't find my old XM sale thread, but since then I've managed to feck up my XM and I've pretty much taken the hump and decided to get rid again.
It's a big blue 2.5TD XM with 216k on the clock, most panels have dents, lacquer is crazed on the roof but it's got 5 months MOT (or so) and is the nicest car to drive i've owned. The half leather interior is nice, Volvo V90 alloys recent new tyres on the front, good part worns on the back, new front spheres, drop links, strut tops, timing belt and balance shaft belt (done 2 months ago!!) aircon rad and air dryer replaced (needs gassing up) coolant rad replaced (along with the little chargecooler rad) front brakes, rear pads. plus absolutely lots of other bits of work that have been done that I can't think of right now.
For the last MOT the rear axle was re-piped at a cost of £500 (owch)
The big issue with it is the N/S/R suspension ram needed to be removed to replace the ram boot, which was leaking. All went swimmingly until I had to reassemble everything. For some reason the high pressure feed union won't screw into the body of the ram far enough and it's leaking LHM fluid. It was mega tight when I undid it so I think there may be some corrosion that has borked the threads or something. I got annoyed and was hanging off the union with a pair of mole grips and a scaffold tube so it's pretty much fecked now. If you were to replace the ram and that section of pipe then it would be an easy fix, although I think the subframe needs to be lowered a little to get to the other end of the pipe. To be fair, it's easily fixable if you have the bits and more patience than me. The suspension all works, it's just there's a steady stream of LHM coming out.
Also, when I was under the back end I found a 50p sized hole in the rear chassis. No biggie, but it did nothing for my mood.
Apart from the aforementioned rust hole in the rear chassis the rest is very good. It had a patch on the sill for the last MOT, and the MOT before that had the front subframe patched. All done to a good standard.
As far as XMs go this is a good one, Body is good rust-wise, the dreaded cam belts have been done, awkward rads replaced, unobtanium strut tops replaced but the wife is on the verge of divorcing me with the amount of time I spend working on it, the kids think i'm dead/in prison so it really has to go this time.
Is £250 too much to ask? A bit of work and it'll be good to go. Plus is absolutely LOVES veg oil.
WILL NEED RECOVERING.
Needs a clean now, but here's some pics.
