That's it, rare a second chance like this comes up, and so soon after the original sale!
Maybe you were destined to own it all along.
Like my Granny used to say 'If its for you, it won't go by you'

I'd be very willing to take it and it possibly is a great car but I'm a bit concerned that it's up for sale again so quickly.

it could be a total dog of a car in a pretty dress or it could be a great car, only one way to find out, go test drive it, and quick before it sells again.

Re: Any mint cars out there?
I completely missed this last week. What an amazing story. It also slightly wrangles knowing this car was sat in Stroud waiting to be literally driven away for a £20 note and a bottle of cider!nosmokenopoke wrote:Hi Rob, Well I was hoping for double and a Vegan big mac. But I'm sure we could strike a dealragger wrote:Must be worth at least double the purchase price!![]()
Pricing XMs is always difficult but it must come down to supply and demand. How on earth can 2cvs fetch the prices that they do? It can only be because more people want them than there are available cars.
It seems to me that XMs are in a similar position in the market to the BX, they have pretty much bottomed out for value and there are now more people finding them attractive, but (and this is important) they only want "good" ones. It seems to me, however, that no matter how "mint" an XM is when you buy it, it will cost quite a bit of money to keep in desirable condition.
I have been without an XM for about 5 months now; I tried an X Type Jag that was virtually "mint" at a bargain price and didn't like it - my brother in law now owns it and thinks it is wonderful. I now have C4 Exclusive - quite an unusual spec with 2 pedals, plenty of power, very low miles and loads of toys - but I'm really not keen to be honest. I have not had a Xantia but could be tempted by a V6, but really the XM is my ideal car (as long as it doesn't have a sun roof!).
For all of us looking for that elusive "minter", we just have to be in the right place at the right time with cash available, and be prepared to gamble.
And if nosmokenopoke really wants to sell he can drop me a line - I come down to Stroud quite regularly to visit my Mum!![]()
Yeah I cant say I am a fan of any 2cv but I'm not blind to see that more people like old cars, as lets be fair they were made with pride years ago and things lasted but now cars are a throw away item just like a mobile phone and lets face it most modern cars are terrible. (garage owner) and i used terrible but its far worse. So old always equals betterhigh 5 to 2cv owners

I agree with the cost of up keep. Thing is anyone who owns something they love always finds the money they didn't have to keep it how they want it. A xm would beat most cars on the road for comfort these days too so well worth the extra penniesI'm sure you're in agreement with me due to being love sick for the past months

I had a x type a few years ago and nice but not nice enough. I cant say I have driven many new Citroen's on the road rob. I have a garage but only trips up the road and back. I have a 2011 range rover sport tdv6 (French registered, no road tax )Renaut clio dci van done 255k and drives like new (my dog van) 2008 Mercedes sprinter lwb van that i put a 2010 BMW 330d engine in
and last of all my new to the family the xm that I seen abandoned on the drive of a 10 bedroom manor house to the side of the Stonehouse Court Hotel, Stroud
your obviously aware of the location due to your mums location. House up for sale, rang ............... estate agents and ask them to pass my details onto the owner to let them know i would be interested in buying it if it was for sale. 2 days later, phone rang and told to go to the house when im free and the owner will deal with me..... I drove it away 2 hours later. I offered to buy the car but the owner insisted I take it for free as long as i take care of it as it was her late husbands car which quote '' he was in love with '' . I class myself as a decent guy so i put 20 pounds on her table and give her a bottle of Bulmers as she said she liked cider in our 2 hour convo. I have moped the car and spent hours on her cleaning it. Now i am going to ring the estate agents back and find out if she has moved yet or not as she was down sizing to a modern flat due to age in centre of Stroud. I am going to pick her up and take her shopping for the day. She a lovely women with no family so its my duty to.
Anyway sorry to go on but i owe that story to her husband. All my cars on my drive and I pick the xm key up everyday unless i am taking my dogs to work.
Yeah its always the right time the right place but we all know its rare when it comes.
I couldn't bring myself to sell it. Its a beautiful car Rob and I also said I would keep it to the last owner. So sorry Rob she going back in the garage to be stored once this weather turns bad.
You are welcome to see it anytime your next visiting Stroud Rob. Inbox me sometime and i could arrange something.
I appreciate your input
thank you
Jon
Well, well done Jon for rescuing it. Bit of responsibility there to keep it going now, but well worth it!

Re: Any mint cars out there?
I have not seen the car directly but I bought the original front bumper off Brad when he fitted a brand new one to the car a year or so ago. I was very happy to have Brad's cast off.IrishXm wrote:I'd be very willing to take it and it possibly is a great car but I'm a bit concerned that it's up for sale again so quickly.
Brad is a VERY straight guy and not lacking resources. He was absolutely fastidious about his cars and loved this XM. He used to have a whole garage of cars (over 20!) and slashed them down to 3 or 4. The XM was one of the ones he kept.
I see nothing untoward about the current rapid resale, the sellers situation has changed. The nature of the work he has had carried out suggests to me long term ownership commitment. Events rather seem to have overtaken him.
You seem keen to get a great car and as you experience has already shown the good ones don't hang around. Life doesn't often offer second chances!!!
Rob
PS No connection to the seller in any way!!!

A Citroen for a £20 note, now you're talking
. Cheapest one I've ever bought with an MOT was £90.

Re: Any mint cars out there?
There seem to be very few at £5K level, mine being one. Similarly, few potential purchasers! But, fettled, they ae just fine AND likely to appreciate.
