Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

WANTED - XM KEY FOB/PLASTIC CASE

Post by Pshemsky » Tue Feb 28, 2017 1:52 pm

Hi Guys.
Is anyone got a good condition key fob for sale? There's no chance for a new one from Citroen so trying to find second hand one in best possible condition.
Found 3 on eBay from one seller (Slovakia) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221964139765? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for £32 each.
Wandering if anyone got something better for sale on our forum ?

Many Thanks.
Regards
Prem

Hi Prem

That is not an XM Mk2 RF fob as supplied in the UK.
It will only work with SOME XM Mk1 IR systems.
Supplier states it is for an IR installation.
The photo also gives away its type.
XM RF plips are the same size but the red LED is up level with the key pivot.
That Xantia IR plip has the led much lower towards the centre of the case.

These two types of case also have different internal mouldings for different shape electronic pcb's.
So you cannot swap cases between them.

The next bit of bad news is that XM RF plips are not reprogrammable and cannot be made up into matched sets.
The components have to be purchased from Citroen against specific radio code.
The costs were just over £200 a set or £80 a matching item when I was making up sets about 8 years ago.

There are some alternatives but it all depends on what you want to achieve.
Some people want Citroen original while others just a functioning item.
Citroen original bits are still possible but expensive and not particularly reliable.
They also operate easily by accident in well filled pockets.
Chinese aftermarket RF sets are cheap but not easy to fit to MK 2's.
These follow the current industry standard which the Citroen XM RF predates and is different.
On these plips three functions are operated by two buttons.
Unfortunately different button combinations for Citroen XM than the current standard.

If you want know more send me a PM listing what you currently have and want to achieve.

John

I do believe our very own Ciaran compiled a 'how to' for fitting the Chinese kits to MK2's... although I'm still to find it 🤔

Hello Prem.

When I got my BX, it had same key fob with remote locking, genuine Citroen, not aftermarket. Since I didn't like the key styling, I tracked genuine model for BX and replaced the whole thing. I think I still have key with matching reciever somewhere in the garage, if interested I could try to find it.

I'll wait for answer from John. He may have a plips case for me (which is what I really need). Just want to try easiest solutions first. I have two plips which works fine with receiver. So got one complete key (working but in bad overall condition) and one plip with metal blade (plips case chewed by dog). I'll keep that in mind and get back to You in case of bad scenario. Thanks
