...also made a nice discovery: on the bumper's chrome strips, the chrome under the protective layer of plastic is in perfect state, even if coating has become white. So, if u had the patience to scrap off coating and know how to apply a new one, u never need to buy new strips.

That is interesting. I always thought it was an aluminium layer that had corroded causing the white appearance.jorgy wrote:...also made a nice discovery: on the bumper's chrome strips, the chrome under the protective layer of plastic is in perfect state, even if coating has become white. I checked this on a corroded strip and found the aluminium layer to be completely destroyed, the bit you have exposed there isn't yet corroded so appears OK.jorgy wrote:...also made a nice discovery: on the bumper's chrome strips, the chrome under the protective layer of plastic is in perfect state, even if coating has become white. 2 stages on white...
one is the clear plastic turning milky, the other as you suggest is water ingress intot aluminium.
mine have gone that way and dont know what to do, except remove them all and paint them then clip them back in.
Feel for you on this i had similar incident last year, I only lost a number plat mind, car in front a bent bumper.
oh i'm looking for headlight washer tops, i put mine safe in a box and stored them, somewhere....
