Re: Clutch cable
I have a spare one that you are welcome to borrow, trouble is it's either taken from a 2ltr turbo or a 2.1td

Re: Clutch cable
Thanks Ken.
I have it on some authority that the part number is actually 21 50 J6, is there someone on here who can confirm?
Also as I understand it, the clutch cable comes in two parts: the bit that goes under/behind the dash (the bit you don't want to fail I imagine!) and there section that is under the bonnet so to speak. Am I correct, in which case does anyone know if the latter section is interchangeable with LHD ones? Ta, Phil

Re: Clutch cable
Phil,
I think you need :
2150 J5
- INJECTION TURBO XU10J2TE ET BVM ME ET CONDUITE A DROITE
They don't make the J6 variant anymore.
2150 J6
NFP
- INJECTION XU10J2 ET BVM BE3 ET CONDUITE A DROITE
The cable is 1 part as such, but there are 2 cables and a linking mechanism in the middle. Its the linking mechanism that broke on my pal's car. I'll see if I can get a picture for it. His one broke on the link part.

Re: Clutch cable
Thanks! That makes it clearer. I will probably buy a new assembly off Citroen as they are - for the time being - still able to secure one. Unless I get lucky.
I don't need one - and once I have it I probably won't ever, but it is for peace of mind in France/abroad as I said.

Re: Clutch cable
A couple of points. If it doesn't look frayed it's unlikely to snap and if it broke in France you could probably buy one over there.

Re: Clutch cable
I cannot speak from experience (touch wood) but I thought that these self adjusting cables failed as a result of the self adjusting mechanism giving up the ghost or failure of the plastic quadrant (which turns the clutch pedal motion through 90 degrees and sits just in front of the bulkhead). On my 2.1TD I always keep this quadrant smeared with grease to minimise wear on the two 'eyes' in the plastic which hold the cable nipples.
Has anyone ever experienced a truly snapped cable?
A LHD clutch cable must be a much shorter and simpler constuction due to its location directly behind the gearbox.

Re: Clutch cable
Yes I have. On a Mk 1 2.1, it snapped at the nipple in the pedal. That's the only one though in about a quarter of a million miles

Re: Clutch cable
Well, maybe I'm being over-cautious.
Next time we're looking around the car, I'll try to make a better inspection and ensure the plastic quadrant of which kenhall speaks is well-lubricated !
