1997 Green XM 2.1TD VSX Manual For Sale now been for MoT

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

brakes and spheres sorted, new rocker cover gasket being fitted tuesday - it will be MoT'd then.

I'm toying with keeping it - and pensioning the white one off for the winter, bringing it back out from undercover in the spring.

I'd be interested to see how the rocker cover gasket fits as the one I got for mine was no way going to fit and seal due to being a completely different profile.

The original was flat and wide and stuck on, the replacement was tall and thin and looked as if it should fit in a groove.

I fitted the one that came in the head set but it leaked badly, so I ordered a genuine one from Citroen. That was exactly the same part so I didn't even try to fit it.
At £20 I wasn't best pleased.

Have you already bought a new Gasket, if not do you want to buy one?

gasket is on order - so yes! Unfortunately - the original has obviously dried out as it is peeing oil out

now I'm toying with the idea of putting the smart off the road and keeping both XMs in use over the winter - aaaarrrrggggghhhhh!!!

Hi Dieselman,

What is the part number of the Citroen rocker cover gasket you bought? Citroen Service lists the same part number 024970 (@ £23.50) for both early and late 2.1TD engines.
The reason I ask is because I wish to eliminate the oily mess running down the back of my 2.1TD engine and the rocker cover gasket is the chief suspect. I plan also to renew the four slightly leaking rubber flexibles on the air manifold as these have gone hard. Then its on to the leaky crankshaft seal - maintaining an XM is getting to be a bit like painting the Forth road bridge!

Hi Ken.

There is only one p/n available, which I suspect is for a late type cover, which must have a recess for the seal, can anyone confirm.... The p/n is C24970.

Dieselman

I'll ask the garage when they fit it.
