Wanted: Ignition barrel and more than one key!
I have the situation where I have only one key that works in the ignition. I would like more, but so far getting a 'spare' one cut hasn't worked (although it does work in the door locks).
My remote plip works fine and I use that, never actually using keys in the door locks. So I guess all I need is a new ignition barrel with a working set of at least two keys, one of which should be a folding plip key (I can swap over the key element)... It has to be suitable for my 2.0CT Exclusive manual 1995 RP6875.
Can anyone help out? Folding stuff available.

Can new keys still be ordered through Citroen?
No doubt very expensive but at least it will keep all of the locks the same and you will have a brand new remote.
I just got one for a Peugeot yesterday, £185, for new key and coded.

The failure of copy cut spare keys to work the ignition is a regular problem.
It is caused by the lock design which is deliberately less tollerant of key wear/cut inaccuracy than the rest of the locks.
Factory cut keys can be ordered from Citroen against the key card code number.
These cost around £20 each.
A while ago I put up a guide to measuring a Citroen cruiciform key to check the code number.
Always worth doing this before you order even if you still have the card with number for the car.
Locks do get changed and ordering wrong keys is a costly error.
There are currently a few NOS XM lock sets being offered by Neat in West London for around £60.
For this you also get 3 or 4 new keys including plip ones plus the new door locks.
The downside is that there are at least 4 different types of XM lock set including 2 types o ignition switch.
Changing the ignition switch is also a pain.

I have decided to go to Citroen and stop trying to circumvent the issue.

Re: Wanted: Ignition barrel and more than one key!
Hi All,
I have the same problem 2 plips and 1 working key i have just come back from my friendly citroen spares department with my two keys one a proper key and a plip key both of them work the door locks but not the ignition he tells me it is a common fault as the ignition lock has worn with the key!
the only remedy is to either buy a set of new locks or have somebody replace the tumblers in the lock to work with the replacment keys.
Replacment Key from Citroen £14 from the independant supplier £12.
Anybody offering?
Also the air con condensor has sprung a leak a replacment from Citroen is £203 inc vat from his independant supplier £175 so looking elswhere for the moment,
Rregards,
Norman

Re: Wanted: Ignition barrel and more than one key!
Hi Norman and Citroenesque
I can retumbler most XM locks but only Simplex ignition switches not the later better quality Valeo ones.
My brief note above mentioned the particular difficulty of the ignition lock.
It uses different tumblers with square edges for security reasons.
Very much work or not work with these.
The rest of the locks use tumblers with rounded edges so will usually still work with a worn or poorly cut key.
The key blades are made of much softer metal than the tumblers so it is the indents in the key that wear.
So I doubt very much that retumblering will make a badly cut or very worn key work reliably again.
Citroen keys can either be factory ordered or dealer cut.
Just a few dealers have the key cutting equipment and not all of those can get reliable results.
I started out by getting extra keys cut and making up replacement lock sets.
These days I now tend to start with a set of new factory keys.
If you want to PM me about your particular requirements I will see how I can help.

Thanks. I'm going to discuss this with my friendly neighborhood Citroen service chap and try to narrow down my options. Then, no doubt
, I'll be giving you a call

The Neat people locks and sets are ebay 330441450745 & 330422542161.
Note that the photos show early Mk1 ignition switches as does the description.
Never dealt with them but it might be worth asking if they have the late type sets.
Citroens price for a similar set is over 3 times that.
GSF used to stock the sets and ignition switches so might be worth talking to the GSF man on FCF.
For those looking for secondhand Mk2 locks and plip set the WHM ebay item 180445761867 might be worth a look.
