S1 Speedo Cable

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

S1 Speedo Cable

Post by jamieb » Mon Oct 18, 2010 3:55 pm

Anyone got one? Mine's snapped just behind the speedo dial. GSF and Citroen don't do they any more...

Try plastic welding it back together using a soldering iron and a tye-wrap as filler.

Thanks Dieselman - Hadn't thought of that. Can you explain the tye wrap?

Tye-wrap = cable tie. They are made of nylon, which is the same as the speedo cable connector, so it makes an ideal plastic filler to add into the welded joint.

Epoxy glue isn't very good on nylon, but another method would be to cut a groove round each section then use wire as reinforcement between the two halves, held in place by a tourniquet of wire in the grooves, then epoxy glued.

Will

it also snaps there - directly after the connector to the speedo!

Thanks - I see now. I think. I'll have a look tomorrow morning but I think it's broken where it goes into the metal box at the back of the actual dial. I didn';t have time to look carefully but at the join there was a thin twisted shard (almost) of plastic coming out of the back of the metal box - like the thin shard protruding from the plastic sleeve of the cable. Does that make sense? what happens if I unbolt the metal box at the back of the speedo dial? Will springs spring out?
