Brave valve wanted

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

What is happening to your strut tops, rubber delamination or rust?

Probably both, they delaminate first, then they rot away...

My strut tops..
from above..
drivers side one looks nice..
Image
and the passenger side one no so nice..
Image
but as we all know that side is not so important...
so from underneath.. drivers side
Image
As youc an see its OK fro a while yet, but the rubber has come away from the steel ajacent to the plate, so its days are numberd unless somthing is done soon it will soon look like..
The passenger side..
Image
as youc an see the rubber is now comming apart all round, the rust is now in and taking a hold from the underside. This will currently pass an MOT but again its days are numberd. This pair are proabbly going to Latvia but I don;t want to send them untill I can make sure the car is mobile while waiting

Another thought.. this VSX is an anti sink car.. Can the pump with some of the pipework be fitted to my early S2 and the FDV and all its hissing eliminiated? not botherd about anti sink, just deleting the FDV hihs on my car can be a bit loud!

Not easily Zaphod. I suppose it could be done but it's a lot of work. The Pressure Regulator would need swapping along with lots of pipework.

The Anti-Sink valves would be necessary as the suspension side of the pump only has two pistons and when the car sinks to its belly it will take forever to rise up again - significantly longer than it does now...

Anyway, FDV hiss to me is a nice characteristic.

You could stick those strut top rubbers with sticky mastic.

If you do, clean everything first then degrease, then apply mastic then get the weight back on them ASAP. Do not allow the wheels to hang until the mastic dries as that will make the rubbers droop.

Otherwise, your strut tops look perfectly serviceable.

I have no doubt they are, but the rust is in them its only time whatever I do. I may just swap them over and then sell the VSX on with thise fitted. I really don't actually want to buy it, I need another car like a hole in the head but if it's going to scrap then I want the strut tops.. and possibly a few other bits. I will see what its like, as I say. If its nice enough I may sort the windows out and see what I have in my spare interior stash (I have a spare set of exclusive door trims) put the strut tops from my exclusive on it and sell it on. I really don't want to break it either. Early investigations by the current owner would indicate the window guide has broken on at least one window rather than the cables

I wouldn't do that will, Ive just changed one that looked like the worse one of Zaphods, then when it was in my hand is had scarey movments, and the alloy casting that the sphere screws into was at an angle, only saw this after removal, so really a change is probably worth while looking at that one.

Seen some tops now, and they can be a lot worse then they look...
