Iffy Ebay 2.5

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Iffy Ebay 2.5

Post by onthecut » Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:34 am

Hi Guys

Looking at latest entry on Ebay, how do you manage to have a car for two years and not get a V5 ? (I have asked the relevant question). Also, £250 for a 2.5 clutch sounds suspiciously cheap to me. Looks like a proceed with caution job.

Mike.

Hi Mike
I also SPOTTED it and was about to post it up (But you beat me to it) :D
The way I read this IMHO, is that £250 was the actual cost of the clutch parts only as the seller states he put it thro' his workshop and that he/they did the actual work/labour in replacing it so that seems all okay to me provided it all been boxed up and working correctly .
E-Bay Seller wrote: WELCOME TO MY AUCTION FOR MY MUCH LOVED CITROEN XM 2.5 TURBO DIESEL.
I BOUGHT THE CAR AROUND 2 YEARS AGO WITH THE CLUTCH GONE.

I PUT IT INTO MY WORKSHOP FOR A WINTER PROJECT. AND DID MANAGE TO CHANGE THE CLUTCH COSTING £250.
THEN I HAD TO MOVE THE CAR AND NOT MUCH ELSE GOT DONE.

THERE ARE A FEW MINOR DENTS, BUT ALL IN ALL THE CAR IS GOOD, AND WOULD EASY GO BACK ON THE ROAD. MECHANICALLY IT IS VERY GOOD. BUT WILL NEED A GOOD VALET.
THERE ARE NO DOCUMENTS WITH THE CAR AT ALL, AND A NEW LOG BOOK WILL HAVE TO BE APPLIED FOR.

ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL 07857302123. CASH ON COLLECTION PLEASE
DELIVERY IS POSSIBLE BY SEPARATE ARRANGEMENT.

It looks like the info is all adding up so far as stated the Road Tax ran out at the end of March 2008 BUT not on SORN :!:
Also the ' Export Marker' Has Export flagged against it so maybe worth asking the question if it been ever been exported, at the same time as the whereabouts of the V5 document, that's if this owner/seller ever had one ?

This could potentially be good buy/bargain provide there's no corrosion issues (As from the Photo shots may have been stood on grass/field all that time) or water works issues if it not been drained or had Anti-freeze in it whilst it's been stood up ?

Colour is Black, when I first looked at the photos I thought it was the usual Dark Metallic Green  the seller does have a Reserve set against it too.

As this is one is on Peter N's doorstep and that "He prefers/likes the cheaper/bargain" deals I think this should be a good step up to a 2.5 TD EXCLUSIVE MANUAL XM (The one for winners) 8-)

Go on Peter you know you really want one (Would make a nice Xmas present for the wife too) to replace the deceased Green Estate
An XM if for life, (Not just for Christmas) !

The Export marker can also mean that it has been "Exported" to Northern Ireland. Both my XMs came from England and have Export markers against them. It might have been brought back at some stage, and they didn't bother to do the paperwork.

There is the possibility that the seller is a trader so exempt from having to fill out the V5/declare SORN.
Workshop and car delivery possible tend to support this.
Might be worth a look except that without an idea of the reserve it could be a wasted journey.

Could be a good buy if it's cheap enough (especially as the clutch has been done - engine out job isn't it?), it just depends if he has a realistic reserve on it. A twelve year old car with no MOT, that's been stood in a field for the best part of two years can't be worth much, even to an enthusiast - it may turn out to be no more than a donor car (although that would be a shame as it's an exclusive).
With 170k on the clock the leather and tissue paper drivers seat will be well worn too (probably worn through :( ).
