Hi Murray,
It is good to see you on the Forum and I hope all is otherwise well! I would be interested in any spare mudflaps if they are still available with no other takers!
With regards,
Matthew T.

Re: Mud flaps wanted
Some time in the 1960s mud flaps became a fad here in Japan, followed by a requirement by the Land Transportation Bureau to have them fitted to certain models of passenger cars. Basically cars with a short rear overhang. The idea was that the flaps would protect following traffic from water (and maybe mud) from being splashed onto them. The regulation was repealed very quickly though as the flaps did not make any difference. It was made by bureaucrats in cozy offices who had no idea what they were doing. I had flaps fitted to a 1969 Mazda Familia 1200, but after someone totaled the vehicle I never had flaps on any of my cars after that.
Just my few cents, but I think the flaps look awful on the XM (and most other passenger cars) and don't serve a purpose unless it is used as an off road vehicle. But who would do the latter now?

Re: Mud flaps wanted
We have genuine Citroen rigid mudflaps on ours, simply because we lived in England on a stony bridal track, and now live here where there are earth and untarmac'd roads. The flaps do stop the bodywork just behind the wheels from flying stone/grit damage. Guess this constitutes 'off roading'.
I think there might have been some flappy flaps once offered by Citroen for the XM, as well as the rigid ones.

Re: Mud flaps wanted
In my experience mudflaps on the XM do help to keep the lower bodywork clean and are a worthwhile fitting and especially on muddy country lanes and all of my cars have flaps. There were two 'flappy' types supplied by Citroen of which the earlier are the best quality and while neither are as robust as the rigid flaps they are more easily removable at the front for cleaning behind the wings etc. With regards, Matthew T.
