Genuine parts are pricey and new/old stock items won't be around much longer.
If you have the money you go for a new part.
The alternatives proposed on this forum:
--- the French screw method
--- the pencil method
--- the rubber method
Make your pick and enjoy

It's a joke on two counts really Jan, although I see your point.
The seller (Wolseley House Motors) has a reputation for vastly over inlfating their prices. Whilst it may be less than half of a new one, there's no gaurantee it won't start going in a few weeks! It's a gamble at the end of the day. I'd risk £25 on a 2nd hand one - it if fails after a few weeks then you haven't lost that much. But £200! Well, that's a lot of money to me and I wouldn't throw it at a part which has such a bad habit of going wrong!
The best bet in my opinion (after trying the techniques you mention) is to buy, for around 30 Euros, a 'repair' item from French ebay. I don't know what it is exactly, or what the nature of the repair is, but those who have bought them report 100% success. I'll try and find a link

Actually I am one of the 'those who have bought them'. Did the repair about three years ago and it is still 100%

Really? That's a good recomendation Jan. I searched ebay france but I can't find any on there - then again my French for 'Dot Matrix Display' probably translates into something non sensical, or perhaps they called it something more romantic like 'The Grand Indicator Of Wonderful Happenings'

Oooh, la-di-daa, look at you and your French persuasion!
Nice one Robert, thanks.
Jan, what does the part consist of? I have very little of the contacts left on the ribbon, so I'm not convinced mine could be fixed anyway?????

Re: LCD display wanted
The part is a flexible rubber-like strip such as used in electronic calculators. It replaces the original ribbon. Easy fix. You can do the job in 2 hours or so.Geoff Lebowski wrote:Oooh, la-di-daa, look at you and your French persuasion!![]()
