Water level detector for 2.5

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

As David said ring a few as I got some seals that were apparently meant to be on back order for months but they found some at another dealer within a few days and I didn't have to order a full set as well :)

Worth doing. My local dealer has located new parts on dealer shelves (here in Spain) through their national stock-search facility.

Really :?

It's worth phoning one of the Citroen UK owned dealers, such as Glasgow, Edinburgh (I think!) and Manchester and asking them to check the entire dealer network for stock as sometimes there's one hiding on a shelf somewhere.

David.
No need, as still available to order ;)

Tim, I phoned LCS Louth (01507 602366), as they sometime have NOS which they list on E-bay from time to time, but they have not got a #1306C3 !

However I did ask them if indeed this has now gone to a 'NFP' type part on the Citroen parts listing and the chap replied 'No' its still available from Citroen if you need to order one and the price quoted is £37.65 +VAT !

So I personally wouldn't bother going looking around scrap yards (If you were lucky to fine one) as they too may be fragile, because I found its the locking legs that age/heat harden and tend to break off if you aggravate them too much by fitting/unfitting of the sensor unit into the Header tank !

I hope that is of help 1

:)

Correct: they don't benefit by frequent fitting/unfitting. They tend to seize in position, and it's not obvious whether you're rotating in the correct direction when trying to remove, so even more chance of breaking the lugs. [IIRC, it's anticlockwise to remove - but this needs confirming.] If fitting one, lubricate the bayonet bits (and the O-ring) with vaseline/silicone grease/whatever.

Ahhh that's so weird as when I looked it showed NFP on the service site!

Typical French system!

Many thanks for enquiring on my behalf, XMX.

I wouldn't waste my time looking for a 2.5 XM with a good sensor in a breakers- such a thing can't exist! What I was thinking of doing was looking for any other sensors with a similar fitment that could be adapted to fit, or even swap the entire expansion tank for a similar one from a different manufacturer. Many Volkswagen ones look very similar, I'd just have to wire the "new" sensor in.

On second thoughts, maybe I should just ring Citroen and put my hand in my pocket!

Just araldite the thing up or plastic weld it in and the same on the spare :) Job done.

If it needs replacing then swapping the tank isn't a big job :)

Hey, guess what everyone?

A sensor from a Peugeot 406 1.9d is identical and works perfectly. I looked a few other sensors from PSA cars and the only difference I could see was the length of the probes. 1.9d Xantias have longer probes, Peugeot 206 petrol models have very short probes. They all look like they will physically fit however.
