Ah but Peter, the XM wont or shouldn't go down anymore, and may be worth a bit more next year.. The 406 and C5 2.2, well, can only see the price's go down more...

I agree with you though, buy them as cheap as possible, and as engines get better for miles theres less to worry about. My Xantia bought at 156k at 600 quid, could possibly still be worth £600 at 226k (After the fault is fixed), possibly £500, Two years motoring for £100 quid, I can live with that nicely.

Any luck with the fault yet Paul?
Thats pretty good buying on the Xantia.....

Does anyone know or seen the Grey V6 on gumtree. Looks like Chris's old one, but not sure. Very cheap.

Best of British with it. Very odd problem...No idea where you would start with that sort of thing. I must go and find it then on FCF.

That is the annoying thing about these faults. It knows what is wrong, but it can't tell you. Very frustrating!
Apart from the annoying voice...having a KITT would be quite useful.

That Xant V6 on Gumtree is cheaper than it should be as it's got the damage on the rear
wing that you can't see. Long way to go to find out how bad it is if he doesn't want to
show you it unless you live up North! Good miles, nice colour and superb cars to own!

Paul,

I know it sounds daft but I've known blocked fuel filters cause cutting out like yours, another one might be a blocked tank strainer or an air leak only apparent under high fuel draw.

Try connecting a vacuum gauge into the fuel fees and see what the vac is, also as you say, the third pump piston may not be working properly so the rail pressure drops under full requirement.

Well this has just got considerably cheaper! Its headgasket has gone

It has never shown sign of it before, never used any coolant before. However as I was out in it the other day it pushed a lot of coolant out and now pressurises quite quickly. Disappointing to say the least!

I'm just very pleased it did not sell, as had this of happened with a new owner it would not be very good!

I'll post it up on here as a project as I would like to to sell as is. If not then it will be repaired and for sale again at the original price.
