Fuel bills easiliy sorted.. manual box I can live with for what the engine is or swap for later s2 prv gearbox from France with cable gear change.

Later series 2 PRV box was MG5 with hydraulic clutch.
242mm clutch plate instead of 235mm of series 1 PRV.
So it should in practice put down a little more torque in heavy acceleration.

But short diesel Rev range and cog ratios wont help a high revving super quick car though!!

It could do as the gears would work out longer ;) so 0-60 could be a bit better and a lazier cruising rpm as well :)

Hi Paul

The ES9J box is a ML5.
Similar but not the same.
Shorter thrust bearing and box casting to match.
I have the gear ratios somewhere comparing a 2.5 and V6 MG boxes.
Seem to remember they were much closer than I expected.
The ML6 box I left for you at Charles's might be worth checking out.
If your can list the data on the identification plate I will find its ratios.

2.5 is designed to top out at 125mph car, 119mph estate.
Rev limiter cuts in at 5500 revs.
125/55*62 = 141mph.
That seems to confirm the gearing will be similar.

Take the MG box off the engine from the blue estate if you want one to try against a PRV block.

Ahh top speed might be issue then...

The cars will top out at an idicated 155mph on the speedo, THOUGH this speed will never be needed by me!

Thats interesting info John.

Ooeeerrr, id have to remember which one of the two engines was out of the blue car.

I do have that scrap engine from Robert that I can get the box off. Ive got an old PRV on the floor in the yard too...
