Norman, that's outrageous. Surely no more than a couple of hours work, even if every sphere had to come off! And £90/h labour - maybe it is now. And that's just for a check . . . Good grief. Sounds like a case of let's come up with a figure, less than the value of the car, which the owner will just about bear. Think they got it wrong, this time. ;)

That's what I thought and I said so I told them I could get it checked and re gassed for a quarter of the price but didn't say where, I suspect they have very little experience in sphere testing.

Bump... Still looking. Haven't had time to look at making one yet.

I have had two more C6's Jorgy. A 2.2 HDi and I've now got my old 2.7 Exclusive back.

Don't forget the Tecnosir kit can be used to measure sphere pressure, as well as refilling.
Several posts on this.

Well, last week I finally managed to find the holy grail!!

I was talking to LCS in Louth about the sphere recharging valves they were selling. I said to him "I don't suppose you've got a pressure tester do you?" When I was speaking to him he said that they didn't. 5 minutes later the phone rang and he said he'd got one. It was brand new and had never even had a drop of oil in it!

It turned up last week but I didn't have a chance to get near it until today. They're very simple really, but it's great to finally have one. I almost felt bad filling it with oil really

The sphere I've got on it at the moment is just one of many that was in a pile I had. The tester stops reading at 45 bar, I've no idea what it should be on that sphere, however, it's got 45 stamped onto the side of the sphere so I can only assume that this one is very good.

Paired with the sphere recharger that I won on eBay for a tenner last year, I'm all geared up and ready to go now!! :D

Well, now that I've got 38 valves for it I'm all geared up and ready to go :D

Is there a chart available that shows what pressure should be in each sphere by any chance?

There is a chart, but each sphere has it stamped on, as you have found.

Can you give more detail about how the citroen rig fills the sphere and what valves you have. Are they Citroen valves, what fitting? I can't see the rig you have being able to clamp the sphere for refilling via the original plug, so assume it uses screw in valves.

I'll put a sheet up with sphere details on.

Hi Will,

It does indeed use valves.

Here's a few more pictures of it:

I've had a price for a 6 foot cylinder of Nitrogen as well. £90 inclusive of VAT and I can keep it for as long as I need it. The cylinders are pressurised to about 250bar so should have more then enough pressure. When I get round to it, I'll get the cylinder and then line all of the cars up to recharge them all during a weekend.

You won't need a six foot cylinder, as standard size one will be more than adequate as you will need about 100cc at say 60bar, per cylinder. Is that an Argon cylinder in the photo, if so, use that as Ar and N2 have almost identical molecule size and compressability.
N2 is used because it's cheaper.

I always thought those valves were just replacement plugs with flats on, the way they fit the adapter is very alike the original Valprex valves.

Are those valves still available from Citroen, David?

The sphere tester looks a splendid piece of kit. How do you operate it?
