For Sale: 1995 2.1 TD SX manual, white £SOLD

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Don’t be in too much of a hurry to take that hydraflush out. If it’s genuine Total Hydraurincage, it can stay in there for up to 5000km (3000mi), and will still be doing its job. Brakes, steering and ride should all noticeably improve with using it, especially if the system was dirty.

Also worth checking if there is any air in the reservoir fluid. After a few miles drive, dip a small sample of the fluid (small clear something on the end of a piece of wire) – it should be bubble-free. Air in the hydraulic system can cause notchy steering, poor ride and brakes slow to come off.

The main culprit for air ingress is the suction pipe that runs from the LHM reservoir to the hydraulic pump. Being suction, you will not see a leak, but air can be sucked in. Check the unions and clips at both ends, which should be hermetic.

BTW, re the two filters in the reservoir: The big one filters returning fluid (from all the circuits), and the small one filters it again as it feeds the pump. The job of these filters is not just to catch dirt, but also to de-aerate the fluid with their very fine nylon mesh, which strains bubbles out (except microscopic ones), leaving them to burst inside the filter (outside on the small one). The large filter does the lion’s share of the work; the small one finishes it off. However, if the suction hose that follows is allowing air in, this work can be undone.

Maybe I'll just give the new owner a bottle of LHM then. This car is now sold. Let's see how long it takes me to regret it... (though I must concede I've got a very strong hankering for a V6 auto).

That didn't take long, was it to someone you already know or a stranger?

I would say your car was priced to sell.

Someone I know. Tried with a higher price earlier in the year and not so much as a sniff. Given the cosmetics aren't great, I felt £695 was realistic - and it seems others agreed! Sold within two hours of advertising the fact on Facebook. It's the right car at the right time for the buyer, so just goes to show that whatever the price, there has to be someone who wants it.

Quick question before I disappear - what can you do with old hydraflush?

And I shall say an almighty thank you to everyone on here for endless advice over the past 18 months. Certainly helped take the sting out of XM ownership.

Dispose of it in same way as old engine oil.

Best of luck, i will continue watching you rather interesting youtube vids and thank you for using your time with the XM to raise its profile as a fairly reliable and interesting form of transport.
You have probably done more to expose the car to the masses over the last 18 months than anyone in recent years or maybe all time in this country at least.

Thanks Dean. I try my best. Regardless of whether I own one, they remain a fantastic way to travel. The right V6 could definitely tempt me back into them.

Mr Seabrook, I salute you! And I echo everything that Dean said. Maybe one day you'll be back.

I am rather fond of your channel. I'll miss your XM updates.
