1993 2.0 SI Auto - Hatchback 27,900 Miles For Sale (E-Bay)

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

The Xantia will follow on in the same path as the BX. I feel sorry for Xantia owners for other reasons too John, but I'll not go into it!!

 and there was me thinking it was just the Activa you hated Robert
Its a real shame prices are sitting at what they are, I think John is right about the xm's future and present status but good examples of mk2 cars do go for reasonable money, enough to secure their short term future anyway.

I do also see both sides here, if I was wanting a minter to enjoy on sunny days and for the odd long distance trip then Id have a petrol. Though ive driven a 2.0 8v (auto) and while it was ok it didn't appeal too much, the 2.0 16v performs well and I loved our 30K mile 2.0 16v manual we had a couple of years ago. That performed very well, was a smooth engine and returned near 40MPG on 80mph motorway runs. The 2.0 16v auto was ok, we've had two and the newer one felt considerably livlier than the other (had both at the same time) and it suited the auto box well.

Actually, I'd put my most desirable XM as a 2.0 TCT manual - which don't seem as popular as other engines. I do like the engine, it pulls very well, reasonable MPG can be had, they are often available and often nice cars and lower mileages than the TDs. I like the TCT as it has a lot of low down torque (equal to the 2.1 torque and is at its peak at a similar rev range) - which is why I like diesels so much. In fact my TCT Xantia can be driven at low revs and picks up very quickly, I get along with that very well.

Im sure I would like a 24v V6, but im not the biggest auto fan, so a manual TCT with a few mods would suit me.

You often find diesel cars in every make and model do more miles and so show more use. So a low mileage diesel for me is a gem, as Im a huge diesel fan and like cars that feel fresh and unused. I do like our 2.1TD, its so usable, drives very nicely (bosch pumped variety), its very refined. Its a joy to drive.

We were offered £2500 for our 60K TD estate last year, might be the guy just badly wanted it but cars are only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay

Your estate is very nice and will retain value.

I think S1 XM diesels in particular were always bought by high mileage drivers as they A: Cost more than an equivalent petrol and B: If bought as a company car the tax was crippling due to hitting two higher taxation bands, engine size and vehicle list price.

I went from a 2.0i 8v manual into a 2.1td Auto and the tax hike was huge...still, I loved that car.

As a show car that low mileage 2.0i was fantastic, I hope whoever has bought it likes it and we get to see it. ;)

I know I have said this before and it might go slightly against the grain, but for my money the best all round XM is a late S1 2.0 sei auto, of which I am very fortunate to own a couple!! The later sei has V6 24v trim with many refinements, including improved electrics, hydractive II suspension, harder wearing leather seats and a better radio. Although the engine may not be as powerful as the 24v, it is not far short of the V6 12v and even with the auto box is quite potent enough and lively to drive. The engine does not have the economy of the 2.1 diesel, of course, but is extremely smooth and quiet. I realize autos are often slated as unsporty and sluggish and I was not initially keen myself, but I quickly became a convert and I also love the cruise control!! With regards, Matthew T.

I'm having a clear out of XM's at the moment, I've just sold a V6 24v XM in Mandarin to a chap in London. My other one is down at Paul's having some surgery.

I'm keeping two XM's. First one being my Emerald Green Series 1 24v which is almost in showroom condition (will be in a month or two as it's going into the body shop to get a little dent and a couple of stone chips sorted).

The other that I'm keeping is my 2000 Series 2 V6 Exclusive which I'm the 2nd owner of and has only covered 50k miles. This car is in showroom condition. When you climb into it she's still got the new car smell and she drives as tight as a new car without a single knock or clunk.

Both of my XM's do no more then 1500 miles a year, they both come off the road in September and don't see tarmac again until around April, this keeps them away from the bad weather and the salt on the roads. They only come out on dry days in the summer too

They are both fairly rare models of the XM and are made even rarer by the condition that they are both in which is why they don't get used much as I feel that they will at some point in the future be the desirable models to have. I might be wrong though!

They will indeed be very desireable models David purely because they are top spec with good performance, looking forward to seeing one or the other at cxm if your going this year too.

One thing about the 24v though, most will end up never being used at all and becoming garage ornaments, engine parts are a bit of a mare on them, a friend over here has a renault Alpine prv turbo which dropped a valve head, sourcing replacements was a costly and time consuming exercise to say the least, at least with the dervs and tct's parts will be available easily and relativly cheaply for a good while yet.

Sorry to hear that you passed on your Mandarin 24v David and I hope it has gone to a good home and even a forum member! I think all series 1 V6s will become collectable and my register confirms there seem to be fewer 12v than 24v, partly because the latter are more widely appreciated I guess. The V6 is not necessarily an 'every day car', particularly given present fuel costs, although we have used ours as daily drives transporting the family etc. I have found Ebay Germany to be quite a good source of engine spares as the V6 was sold more widely there.
