1996 2.5TD VSX Green Estate F/S on E-bay

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I am reasonably certain the controlling microprocessors in the ECU overloaded and cut out.
This will have dropped out the double injection relay amongst other things.
The microprocessors would then reset themselves and restarted.
Somewhat similar to switching the electrical side of the ignition switch off then back on.

Putting a 2.5 out of gear with cruise enabled automatically switches cruise off.
The clutch switch is there to do that.

Yes but only if it's enabled WHEN it's in gear.

If it's in neutral, rolling, no clutch contact and you raise the revs a little and enable cruise it will work to control revs. Try it :)

The system has no real idea it's in a gear or neutral!

Car is now SORN and stored away from home until I need it and get round to fitting a new clutch.
Incident happened on route while driving it to storage.
When I get the chance I will put a LEXIA on and read the ECU for recorded faults.
See if that throws any light.
Car had no history of battery drop out problems, did not come to a stand and drove on another 40 miles to destination.
Dashboard sequence was exactly as you see when turning the ignition on.
To me that still ties up with the ECU shutting down and then restarting.

I can't see a slipping clutch being allowed to kill the engine. I could see that it's possible to have the engine reduce torque, all the way to idle if necessary.

Tried it again later yesterday.

In nuetral when rolling it would try and raise the revs and realise they were climbing to quick and cut power when no speed increase or speed held was sensed.

When i mean cut power it just returned to idle.

If however i kept trying to dial speed in via the cruise stalk the revs would rise and rise quite easily but then die off almost straight away but only back to idle.

Mine doesnt have the cruise activation button mind but just a short wire between the pins which could cause an issue but i cant see how as its a hard click button from what i can tell and not a soft click one.

Yes, it's a real switch, not the usual pushbutton. Obviously for safety reasons, it serves as the final shutdown measure for the cruise control if anything goes wrong.
