My guess is that a flat top cut-off for the dip beam would be the prime requirement, in order to prevent dazzle.
The slope-end kick-up was meant to provide additional distance of illumination to the kerb side/verge, so that the roadside could more easily be seen.
This pattern was fairly easily specified and built into filament headlight design, when almost every car on the road was using H series halogen bulbs.
Now that there is a plethora of alternative light sources and optical arrangements, it wouldn't surprise me if the industry hadn't asked for the previous kick-up requirement to be relaxed.
By the looks of newish cars on the roads, the additional requirement of not to dazzle/distract oncoming traffic seems either to have been largely abandoned in practice, or diluted to something so subjective that testers either can't or won't invoke it, or just cannot cope with the variety of lamp patterns and types that present themselves. I'm not talking about modified cars here, but cars which are obviously in factory state.
You do wonder what the test/conformance requirements now are.

I have a definate kick up on the left now. Does that mean that I have the fresnels in the right lights? They are definitely the right way around, however, I read on here that to convert LHD to RHD alignment you should swap between lights as well?

Yes, because of their shape you can't easily flip the fresnels within a headlight, but swap them between headlights, in the process turning them around.

Well that didn't go as well as expected. Anyone want to take this off my hands?

what is going on here, 2.0i petrol models making 1-2k with manual dervs struggling to crack £700? I would of thought this car would of been snapped up.
Hope it goes this time round.
Hows the C6? I take it you have collected it now.

As I have said elsewhere, that is an excellent advert for a desirable car.

Thank you very much Dean and Ragger. I was surprised too.
,
The C6 is absolutely amazing... like the best car I have ever been in. The only fault so far is a whistling from the driver's door window which I will try investigate when I get back to Cambridge on Monday.

Buy this one and focus on its cosmetics: replace the wings (provided) and weld the end of the rear drivers side sill before the next MOT and give it some paint (either front and rear wings or take my painter friend up on his good offer), and replace the glovebox (provided) and you'll be pretty close. Mechanically, it’s great, however, I would replace all the engine mounts as it isn’t as quiet or refined as an XM should be. (£150 for the lot from SASIC and I will provide the part numbers, or much cheaper if buying other makes).
There's your answer why; wings, welding, paint, glovebox and engine mounts - add in ABS, air con and sunroof not working properly, plus the odd rip and chrome that needs doing - that's all people see! Selling a car isn't about how much you've done to it to keep it going - that's expected! The price is prevalent on what needs doing.
I think it reached a good price first time around and certainly wouldn't pay any more for it.
