One for Jorgy!! And me... :?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

This facia was broken (literally) in a couple of places (somebody hated this XM!!), and u could pull it off easily with 1 finger.

Also forgot to say the instrument panel hood was not steady in place...screws not tightened, or broken bits also??

G

ps. now I remember that August ebay advert from Paul Noyce cars was reading "it will need a new ABS sensor for next MOT", so could be that trip computers have just been disconnected by the current seller for the problem to go away....this is maybe why the broken panel -seems they like to do things fast in this place   .

Did you travel by train or car as being
in the same position I'd have probably tried meeting up with white Xm man 70 miles away to recover
something from the travel time/cost!!

Another 70 miles again and you'd have been at my barn too...
Andrew
Unfortunately I was stranded there, went by train aiming to return with the car, with cash in wallet. This business was in a farm in the middle of the countyside, 9 miles away from Stratford-Upon-Avon, and they didn't even offer a lift back to the town!

Girlfriend (who I dragged with me) was not impressed either -funny, after all this theatre had developed, she says, in all innocence :) : "now I understand that *your* XM *is* in a good state!" (and it's far from perfect, trust me). Now she tells me to forget other XMs and go for LPGing mine.

Jorgy,
Sorry to learn of your trip to Stratford On Avon to view/buy the XM seems to have been a waste of time and money but you've done the right thing to have left it there :!:
I'm sure the right one will appear soon if you hang on a bit longer, as the saying does "Buy with haste and repent at leisure" :D
BTW, the photo of the strut top in that condition for the MOT technician to have missed that is beyond belief and you stated the other side is worse

Hi XMX, thanks,

yes it's beyond belief, as I said it's obvious *they* MOTed the car in their premises. If I buy this XM I'll sure be taking it for a full inspection to my indy.

I've fallen on such a case in the past, a ZX sold by a guy who was working in the ambulance service somewhere in the NHS, who had their own MOT facilities, so he sold me a ZX with a fresh MOT that wouldn't really have passed the real test -e.g. wishbone bushes were *totally* knackered, it was prob metal to metal.

cheers

Hi Andrew,
If your referring to the White one on E-BAY reg. number 'R672 PKV' (Sellers location Manby, Lincolnshire) the same XM is being currently offered on GUMTREE (Location London) for £985 :!:
No, the grey one Jorgy has been to see and the subject of this thread that is still
lurking on ebay with a purported 40k miles and billed as being a car for an enthusiast.

It could get very keen high bidding on a car that by the sounds of things is only
worth 200quid... I'm truly surprised you're still contemplating the car George.
Especially as you haven't driven it to know what state the engine/box/clutch feel like!

I believed (rather innocently I'll admit) that garages couldn't sell cars themselves that
they had MOT'd as of course they could pass any old rubbish and would fall foul of any
follow up investigation/spot check etc?

Yes, I'm taking a totally non-rational risk in pursuing it. It's just that, at the moment, I feel I've already invested too much to loose it all. And I have 2 strut tops, which is the basic thing the car needs to get running, *if* they repair the compressor. Perhaps tomorrow I'll see things differently though. I'll ring the white-XM guy of course also -the 2 cars are (should be) comparable in price as far as I see. And there's alot of talking to be done with them on the phone as well. I need to clarify why the coolant was 1lt low -not that I'll believe what they'll tell me, but I'll try to guess!!! :x

garages+MOT+strut tops -what I *can't* believe is that, after *me* having told them how dangerous this is, and having peeled off the mess and made it even more visible, they *still* seem to believe that anybody that will hapilly go there to pick up this XM, will not mind about it. They must have some sales strategy in mind that is beyond my abilities to analyse, and the relevant literature has not spotted yet!

cheers

I can't believe if you listen to yourself you can still deal with and trust this seller!
Are the scratches and welding something you can live with as the wonky dash and strut
tops are fixables yet still not offering a car at the kind of money this seller will expect.

That Brecon white car is a more honest sounding prospect and owned by a fellow Xm owner
who at least limits his expectations in value to what I would consider more realistic if a tad
on the optimistic side. If I could extract just one of my many 2.0i manuals from the barn that
I need to thin down I'm sure it'd be a damned sight better than the current options available.
I'll try and put into some sense the facts/figures these present although I'm pretty committed on
finances and occupied with other issues this month already to embark on another car shakedown
and MOT'd.

Maybe if I showed you some piccies of the barn you'd understand what I'm up against!
  :o

Thanks For explaining that, but when you referred to 'The White XM' in one of your postings:-

It threw me onto the White One, as that's the one advertised with 42K and the one Jorgy went to view has the purported 47k miles (Not 40K or 42K miles) I hope you'd managed to follow all that okay ;)
Thank's :D

I can see the cause of the confusion: sorry, I'm not exactly chucking accurate mileages about the place am I!
I could have popped back to view the original ebay auction but couldn't bear to see some guy winning the
bidding on something that he thinks he's getting, when George has clearly seen the reality! :o

George, I would advise you to cut your losses and pursue another XM. If you have uncovered all these problems with it on the first visit without driving it, then there is more to come. See the money invested in going to see it, as a means to avoiding spening a hell of a lot more on a troublesome car in the future.

I went to see a 2000 2.1 TD Auto VSX on saturday, it was advertised as being a really good car. But it was in awful condition, and I didn't drive it. So I'm not bothering with that unless the seller has a more realistic price on it.

You could fix that car and put it in better shape. But to be honest, you could buy a better car that needs little doing to it for similar money.
