Coolent Level Sensor and connections

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Coolent Level Sensor and connections

Post by Saraphi » Tue Nov 24, 2020 3:42 pm

There has never been a Coolant Level Sensor fitted to my car since I acquired it. I'm now at the stage of trying to rectify all the omissions. Does anyone have this sensor I could purchase, and as there seems to be nothing to attach it to, I would like any wiring/cables and whatever connections are needed at the other end to make the thing work.
So I also need advice on how and where please.

Iirc, your car has the 2.0-16v engine, in which case the sensor should be mounted in the header tank, which is part of the radiator.
The sensor should be readily available and the connector will be a Junior Power Timer (JPT) type.

Rex, could you add your vehicle details to your signature or profile?
Had to trawl back through old posts yesterday to try to find, and gave up!

Chris - I hope I have now added to my signature, forgive my lack of foresight.
Meanwhile, it seems that I do have a coolant sensor. However it's not on the radiator, see pic, and there doesn't seem to be any connecting wiring.
Am I correct about what this component is? What should the wiring look like and where would it be connected?
Sorry to be so dumb, I just wish a wiring diagram made sense to me!

Are you sure the connector isn't hiding down near the radiator on the right hand side.

Without actually checking, the wiring is going to be pretty simple. One wire for positive feed, one for Gnd, one for the signal switching, which connects to the warning lamp and display.
The connector is a three pin, junior power timer.
