Early 2.0 Si for restoration

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Early 2.0 Si for restoration

Post by Citjon » Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:55 pm

1990 on a G plate with 76k on the clock. Going by the RP number (4930) it is the 9th oldest known car. Romano velour interior, Italia alloys and platinum metallic grey. Also has a fully working glovebox catch! (gas strut is dead though).

The upper bodywork is fairly straight and presentable but there are a few scabby bits on door bottoms, front wings and the boot lid as to be expected. Rear towing eye became detached when trying to move it and hairline cracked the lower rear bumper.

Usual rust in both sills and some isolated areas of the floor. Rear cross member at back of boot will need repairing but the subframe mounts seem OK ish. I have dropped the subframe to repair an LHM leak, however most pipes appear quite good considering. Nearside strut top definitely needs changing but I might have a spare to throw in.

It starts and drives enough for loading, although the doseur valve is a bit sticky (will try to free it). Owned by a friend for many years it was probably last on the road in the late 90s. Waiting for the paperwork and V5 document to confirm.

Will obviously need fully recomissioning in terms of brakes, tyres, spheres, servicing etc etc but as an early example it is well worth saving. There may be other problems that I haven't noticed but I'm happy to answer any questions or provide further photos if needed.

Car is close to Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.

Looking to recoup my costs so wanting £250.

Leaky pipes have now been replaced, exhaust refitted, spark plugs changed and LHM topped up. Drives well round the yard, however the doseur valve is still sticking.

Just right for going for a picnic in...

Although that car appears rather rusty underneath, it appears pretty sound in the sills, which have all four jacking points still there.

A worthy Xm to save.

The doser doesn't stick its the L bracket that acts against the doser valve .. get plenty of plus gas penetrating oil on the pivots and work it free..

Those pipes look in better nick then your V reg car..

I'm so tempted .. simply as a do up and sell on..

Thanks for the tip Paul, I will give it a good spray and work out. It gets annoying when you have to get out the car to release the brakes!

The inner section of the sills is still fairly solid so you've got something to work from.

If needed I can take more pictures of the crusty bits. The pipework is in great condition and much better than the S2 car.
