You thought wrong. No one offered to rescue/buy the car so far at any price not even £700. You may see that the price has been lowered on PistonHeads and am still waiting for any offer.
Some news : I talked to the owner (where my car is parked) and the maximum he offered before calling the scrapyard to free his space is the end of this week-end. He kept a key.
You can still rescue this car if you act fast. If you want to have a look at it, the contact is Maggie, a neighbour.

LAST NEWS : XM for £300

If anyone can PICK UP MY XM, which is parked in Harrow, TOMORROW, Monday the 30th October (Tuesday morning the very latest if you organized it beforehand) they can have it for £300.

They just need to call 079 81 25 24 31 for arranging collection.
She has the two sets of keys, the log book, the whole service history and all legal authorization for selling it.
She has not got all the information about the car, but will be happy to give you my number on WhatsApp so that you may contact me for further details.

XM VSX Turbo Automatic, reg 1997 (enhanced serie 2), petrol, dark red, comes with two keys, log book and whole service history.
The interior is impeccable, with pristine grey velvet seats. No damage whatsoever.

Defects:
. Flat tyres,
. Lacquer has started to peel, although not everywhere on the body,
. And it does not start. I do not know at this point the reason why it does not start, since it was starting only a few months back. Would it start with a jump start ? Could it be out of petrol ? Does it need a new battery ? I cannot say.
. Also, I noticed this summer, that the knob of the gear lever needs replacing. So do the wipes of the windscreens front and back.

The car has been stationary since the Covid.
Before that, as it was off-road, my late husband's mechanic would start it up and drive it around the corner now and then.
The Last MOT before going off-road ran until autumn 2017.

It is only early this year that the car stopped starting up. After the Covid, the tyres got flat and although it was starting up fine, we would not run it, obviously.

As you can see on the pictures, I inflated the tyres, but it would not last.
Also, you can see that the lacquer has started to peel on the roof and on the front hood.
Those pictures were taken last month.

That's good to hear.
Lack of space, the sellers overly optimistic valuations, coupled with the short time frames were creating a challenge for ensuring this one was saved.

I think people don't realise how much cost and aggravation there is in rescuing and restoring dilapidated cars.
