For Sale. 1997 XM 2.1TD Manual. Its in pretty good shape with only 75k on the clock. Two owners before me, last was an elderly chap who gave up driving in 2014 and left it in his garage until he passed away in 2020. Solid with no obvious signs of rust. A few small dings and paint blemishes/scratches/chips but good for its age. MOTd until Feb 2025
In the past 5000 miles its had cambelt, tensioner, idler, aux belt, aux belt tensioner, harmonic damper/pulley, water pump, thermostat, coolant flush and renewal, all spheres apart from anti sink, glow plugs , doseur valve seal, oil and filters. Its all original including the original working Philips cassette player, Citroen rubber mats. I bought it as a berevement sale and sadly all the service book and any paperwork was lost but I have the handbook/wallet and receipts for all the stuff I have fitted.
Bad Points
Paint on the flanks and boot is very good, paint on the bonnet is ok /average but pain on the roof is poor. With large faded white patches.
Passenger window doesnt work (motor seems to spin so think its cable. Drivers side didnt work but I have a working regulator and one touch switch which needs fitting. I havent fitted it yet because I am trying to get hold of a plastic window stay clip which is also missing
LHS dispaly lights up but text doesn't display
Blow from the rear silencer.
ABS light is on. I went through a whole heap of diagnostics and it was confirmed the ECU was at fault. I have a spare which was sold to me as working with the car but I haven't fitted it.
Fuel pump leak. Seems to be from around the spill solenoids. Leak itself isnt too bad, just drips down the back of the pump but its drawing air in which means it needs a few cranks or the priming bulb to start when its been left a few days and about 5-10 mins into a journey it will go through a phase for a min or two where the revs will hunt from 1-2k but it seems to then pass and seemingly not come back (although I haven't driven more than 25 miles in a single journey to confirm). Its the Lucas EPIC pump and I have the full seal kit (including the valve O rings and a new shut down solenoid plunger kit) to repair but again I haven't done this. However reading on Frenchcar forum I undertand if its just the solenoid seals they can be done in situ
Reason for sale
I bought this as a quirky daily driver in 2021 but since the ULEZ expansion its £12.50 every time I drive it so its just stopped being used as regularlty as it deserved to be, and I have 5 other cars and not enough parking so reluctantly a few of the non ULEZ ones have to go
Car is located in SE London (inside ULEZ) and I'd be looking for £900ono which is considerably less than it cost me to buy and recomission but appricaite it does need some TLC now
Please don't buy this car to break. Its far far too nice and with a bit of time would make a great car again
