On ebay

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

A lovely car to drive but not to maintain, that's why I don't buy them, but I do a lot of miles, if you don't the risks are lower. Malcom is a nice chap and very knowedgable about Citroens, but of course he has to make a living. I think you would probably be safer buying a car from him than from the general public and he would probably look after it for you. Go and have a look at it, see if you like it. :D

Had many of cars from him Chris - My 12v Auto 1993 vintage was from him.. Still got her and 40k later!

The 2.5 has NO ROOM under the engine bay, they are as FULL as the V6 engine bay,,,

The water rads, of which there are two are EXPENSIVE when they go, oil coolers also can leak, but I think this is also a 2.1 small problem.

2.5's are not particularly economical, to 30's were as the 2.1's can do more...

Not even I - as much of a DERV man would be happy with a 2,5, I much prefer the 2.1 and only have 1 rad too.. :D

However those said, an AMAZING engine!

Hi bitonthe sidexm

Pleased things are looking up for you.

A string of coincidences may just get you a very good XM or a bag of trouble, no way of knowing which.
Take a look or phone and ask. At least you will be dealing with an informed seller with XM expertise.
If you like what you see then you can always make an offer or leave your contact details in case it does not sell.
Do not test drive a 2.5 unless you are serious because they tend to be adictive.

Hi Bitontheside

I'd want to know a lot more about the water leak that's been 'sorted'. Was it, for example, just from a hose that wanted tightening, or from a more serious location ? If a rad or the heater matrix, has it been 'sorted' with a proper new part or a quick fix ? You absolutely need to go and see the car and take it for a long enough run to get it properly hot and establish there are no cooling issues remaining.
Have to broadly disagree with Paul (and Peter !) on the 2.1 / 2.5 debate. The 2.5 is a very noticeably smoother, less agricultural engine and I've found, in general mixed driving, there's actually very little difference economy wise. Yes -- it is a crowded engine bay, but the significance of that depends on the job you're doing. You'll not find a 2.1 owner taking you on with a bet as to which oil filter is quickest to change, for example and I certainly thought the cam belt was an easier job on the 2.5.

Mike.
