Breaking 1994 2.5 TD

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Ah...

I think you've (XMX and Paul) just answered my next query...

Ever since I did my ATeam bit with the wall at the beginning of the month, my power's been down, noticably under acceleration...

S shaped intake pipe between the intercooler and the plastic intake on the front of the engine...

Where exactly is it - from above or below?

Does anyone have an exploded diagram and I'll check and replace if necessary...

is this a current OE item or does anyone else have one for sale?

Thanks again

Ian

I would think your issue could be a split intercooler.

Thanks Dieselman - panic over...

Nothing as complicated - loose jubilee clip on the intake pipe!

Yes, amazing - got power back to it's old self for the sake of a couple of turns of a screwdriver... PHEW!

Wish all fixes were that easy!

Ian,

glad you solved your problem, You can't miss the pipe on a 2.5l it is direcly in front of you, forward of the engine to the right when you open the bonnet. It rises up from the intercooler and attaches to the plastic intake nearer the battery. It should have a large clip at the centre attaching it to rubber the cooling. hoses. Mine had a large split about 3" along its lower length on the underside, so was not visible. I discovered it by the amount of blowby oil leaking from the split. Having this slit means that the turbocharger is virtually ineffective.

Hi Paul

Yes, realised that I shouldn't be able to miss it when it was right in front of me! Thought for some reason that the intercooler was under the front of the battery and that the hoses would be on RHS round the back of the engine for some reason...

I'll have to sort out a layout diagram and reaquaint myself!

It's the "should have a large clip at the centre bit" that confused me - mine doesn't have any clip for some reason - just a large diameter pipe with a jubilee clip at either end...

Yes, thinking logicaly, turbo compresses air and if there's a leak, it loses the pressure. That's what it felt like, I would accelerate and the car virtually stayed where it was... I've had the car 18 months now, and know (and use) the power that's available- it just hasn't been there for the past few weeks. Had to go to Silverstone yesterday (I'm a motorsport photographer and artist) and felt like I was towing something heavy?

Been up and down the M6 this afternoon for a couple of junctions, and seems back to normal now, so fingers crossed?

Just been out to pick up daughter, but snowing heavily here and JCN13 motorway closed, so had to come back.

Try it again in an hour or so...

Thanks

Ian
