how much would this be worth?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Yes it is mine i have replaced it with a xantia hdi the xm only failed this morning on the way to work
the problem with it is i think apart from burnt out clutches is the valve body the kickdown has locked up the cable is half way out it gave up as i was overtaking i kicked the car down and it changed down and pulled ok on releasing the throttle i could only get 1/4 throttle then the box lost all forward drive
if anyone is interested it has a new cross box and rear box 1 new teeves front abs sensor and as said in the ebay ad the rest of the mechanical parts are all ok and working as they should the drivers seat has the alacantra panel on the base worn out and the passengers seat is worn the body is as the picture on this thread i would repair it but i now also have a 98 24 valve with the auto box gone and this will become my next car so if you are feeling brave it can be repaired this is the reason i have not repaired it i hope that this answers some of your questions if the car does not sell as a whole i will consider breaking it but time and space are limited this end if someone has a hp18 box and wants it fitted i will fit it for a very reasonable sum if this is of any help to anyone pm me your phone no and i will call you,

Cheers

Sounds like a very reasonable offer Broyty, one on which im sure you will be taken up on.
The replacement box would have to be from a petrol Turbo car though if anyone is thinking about it as the turbo version of the HP18 senses boost and adjusts shift points accordingly.

Good luck with the sale

not sure why the kickdown cable would jam though, sorry if im boring you all but im far too interested in these auto boxes for it to be normal.
On mine the return spring on the kickdown cam broke which snarled things up a bit but i still got drive

Unless the mechanism has really broken up and allowed the load compensator valve (bottom valve with the roller on the end) to come shooting out but i cant remember if thats even possible now...

No kitchen wouldn't be spotless enough for the foibles of an autobox to survive
it's innards being fettled in it?

 I thought they were all the same :?

Any idea how many variations there are Dean?

I'd always thought that if I had an auto box failure, I could simply swap it for one of my other ones - ie put the 2.1 box into the TCT or vice versa.

Why does everything have to be so complicated?

i believe that all turbo engines autobox uses this boost sensing function which as far as i can tell works in much the same way as the kickdown cable therefore the 2.1 box should be the same apart from The gear ratio's or final drive ratio.
I can only speculate though Paul as i have not seen a 2.1 auto box, i believe the boost sensing could be swapped to another box but you would be better off just repairing the box if you had to open it up.
