Mk 1 fob and receiver wanted

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Mk 1 fob and receiver wanted

Post by EddyXM » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:34 pm

Hi all.

Anyone have a working key fob and receiver? Mine has an intermittent fault. The code is almost illegible, but can just about make it out in case you just have a fob, who knows it may match.

The key just rotates in the lock instead of engaging and
opening/closing the door, I have problems getting in and also leaving the
car secure. (Yes I know you have to push the key in as well as turning). It
looks like I'm a car thief as I mess around for minutes with the damn lock. The same key works fine in the ignition.

Would just a new key solve that issue maybe or would I need a replacement lock and key? Offers welcome anyway.

Hi Ed,

sorry can't help with the fob and receiver.

But, with regard to the door lock.

First thing to do is squirt some WD40 into the lock.
Then keep turning the key in it for a while.
If it doesn't free it up, leave it for a while, and try again.

They tend to sieze up and this usually does the trick.

Be patient, it may take a while.

Thanks Paul, I tried graphite and then WD40 in the lock, but I will take your advice and persevere with the squirting. I guess not using the key doesn't help it staying operational. Meantime the fob is working again, seems it's a bad connection or bad component - the evidence points to the large blue rectangular thing (capacitor maybe?) in the fob.

A member of another XM forum kindly sent me lock overhaul instructions, and having followed them the lock is now working very smoothly. It's not a particularly hard job, but needs care.

The file is now here under "XM lock repair":

And the remote is still working after its DIY repair, so I can relax now.
