Hi all

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0415665669

I'd have said this earlier but, with all the freacking 2.1td worries, I only just got to try the set on my own V6.

Results: 1 plip and receiver working to perfection, the other one displaying a constant red led when plipped, that doesn't go away unless battery is withdrawn. So it doesn't have any effect on the locks, and have no idea if this can be repaired.

So someone will get a good receiver+plip (incl batteries), plus a 2nd potentially repairable plip, for the infrared system as on S1 and S1.5 XMs.

cheers
George

Sorry about that Paul! Next time don't be so stingy and bid £20!!

Dean, in summer, remember to take photos of the engine-start system please. Would love to know what cables do what on the ignition lock. I have a remote-starter function on my V6 plip but never got to plug it up bec it looked a bit too tricky...

BTW this XM of yours will be one of a kind by the sounds of it....!!

cheers

George, so far as i can tell the remote alarm uses its own bank of relays to run in parrallel to the original ignition curcuit, its just instead of a key to make the contact there is a remote signal wire, there is also a handbrake inhibitor function to stop the engine cranking without the parking brake on and a signal wire from the oil pressure sensor to tell the alarm when to stop cranking. There is also a wire that detects the ignition has been turned on by the key when you enter the car after a remote start, if not it shuts down the engine, locks the doors and sounds the alarm, my alarm also has anti hijack, this enables you to turn off the engine even with the key in the ignition from up to 1000ft, not that i can see that being usefull over here.
I have the wiring diagram around, when i unpack the scanner i will send you a copy if you like? cant promise i will remember though, my memory is awefull so you may have to remind me

Thanks Dean, your system sounds very similar, maybe identical to mine. I bought this system that can do everything except of...coffee. Okay, one thing it doesn't have is automatically shutting the windows upon locking. So I have all I need, I just felt I couldn't bother routing the 3-4 thingies you mention that need connected... So just the remote lock is operative now. But, since you have your car in for a total do up, definitely worth the hassle!!

ps. fyi, when I was doing it, I had enquired and confirmed that on the XM with IR system, you can't get to control the boot separately from the relevant "box 55" under the dash. You'd have to tap in at the rear end of the car.

I think your informant on the boot lock wiring is only partly right.
The wiring may well be common from the underdash control box but there will be a splice in the car where the tailgate control wire is taken off. This will be on the drivers side inside cill by the "B" pillar. That wire can easily be found and cut to fit a seperate feed.

Why would you want the boot to unlock independantly from the rest of the car? I can't see any advantage to doing that myself.

Just hit the one button to open all locks, job done.

So your lappy can't be knicked from the boot if being 'jammed'....but then you don't get that problem in rural NI, it's a Mancunian thing... :o
