Any late 2.1TD owner with a dodgy copper/brass original radiator might be interested in this auction about to finish soon http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT
It has the 'Click-fit' push in hose fittings.

I don't think there can be to many cars about that use that rad Ken, Twice I ordered one for mine and twice that type arrived, all mine, although two of them are '96 reg, use the old type. Cheap for someone who does though.

Yes Peter the price was fair, my aluminium replacement fitted a few years back cost at least double from GSF. My '96 made, '97 registered 2.1TD uses this type of hose fittings, but I already have a new spare.

It's back on sale at a reduced starting price of £30.

Would you be able to change the palstic ends, and exhange the core from that radiator to make it work with one of the earlier ones? I have never seen a radiator with fittings like that before, just the usual push the hose on and jubilee clip.

Hi Robert

You could try and get some of the Conrad hose fittings from a scrap PSA vehicle and adapt them to your existing hoses (assuming that your existing hoses approach the rad at a similar angle and position. However the metal push in part does tend to corrode badly, so getting hold of fittings in good nick might be difficult. Here is a picture of such a fitting from a Peugeot:

What benefit does this system offer over the traditional system?

It's quicker to assemble on the production line and theoretically means less leaks as clips expand with heat.

Robert

I would echo Dieselman's comments and add:

To be honest they are a pain in the neck for DIY dismantling (almost on a par with removing corroded in XM ABS sensors). When I replaced my leaking original radiator I managed to lever the top connection out (after removing the retaining clip) without too much difficulty but the bottom connection would not budge and access to lever it out is very poor. I ended up hacksawing off the plastic socket on the leaking rad which allowed me to bring the end of the hose out through the o/s wheelarch where I was able to get the joint apart. I gave the push in metal bits a good Waxoyling on reassembly.

Right, so PSA save a few pence per car manufactuerd. DIY owner 10 + years down the line has a headache to contend with.
