Mk 2 estate breaking

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi Peter

Im in ryde so 40 mins from the Yarmouth/lymington car ferry, 15 from any redfunnel, 10 mins from the portsmouth fishbourne and 60 seconds walk from the cat or hovercraft, i could meet you from any.
The abs worked fine when i drove the car so i would presume they are fine, the system is Bendix though.
I have sort of tried to get them out but they are kind of stuck (why didnt they grease them??) you could get your old ones out by removing the hub ass from the arm and hammering them out from the inside but that wont help if i cant get the good ones out in tact .
Im going to drop the rear subframe out tomorrow so i will let you know how it goes.

Hi dean

I have come to the conclusion that there is no chance of getting mine out in one piece, I have removed the hub and attacked the inside end with a very large hammer and drift, not a movement. I would imagine that if they are all the same the only way would be to swap the whole arm assembly, are yours still complete?

Well, ive removed the caliper and hub assemblies from each arm, could put them back on though if you really want them.

No, that's OK I can fit mine. You havn't damaged the sensors trying to get them out have you, do you have an ohm meter to check? If you are going to take the arms off, can you make sure the bearings and spacers are with them.

Thanks

No i havnt' damaged the sensors, tried wiggling by hand but they wouldnt budge so i left them, i will check the resistance on both sensors though and will keep all the relivant parts with the arms, like i say subframe off tomorrow evening so long as i dont have to work and i will get the arms off later in the week, unless your desperate?

Hi Dean

Thanks for that. They should read about 2.6 - 2.7k. No, I'm not in a desperate hurry, I have put the car back together and taken it off the ramp now, I still have plenty of cars I can use. :D I will send a PM.

There is one thing that I am half on the lookout for which is a pair of Mk1 switches. I want to put them in the centre console on my Mk2 to replace the odd looking one for my automatic wipers/lights. So I am looking for ones with something vaguely wiper related on the picture and something vaguely lights related.

The reason I want Mk1 switches is that I wan to put them in the center console on the Mk2 next to the rear window switches, and the Mk1 dash switches look to be the right size and style whereas the Mk2 ones are smaller.

I don't suppose you have any switches left on it, Dean?

I am coming over next weekend for a weeks holiday, so I could pick them up if you did have any.

Hi Rowanmoor

How about the MK1 rear wash wipe switch? two switches in one unit and we can swap the buttons about to have 1 wiper symbol and 1 foglight/interior light symbol on it, ive got a box of switches anyway so you can stop in if you like and pick out what you want from the collection.

Peter

I got the sensors/ arm off today, a bit of wiggling and the n/s sensor came out a treat but the o/s sensor had to come out in the arm.
I checked the resistance and thay are both dead on 2.6 ohm's

If you want to pop over and get them your more than welcome and as i said i can meet at any ferry terminal or maybe if rowan is near you you could sort something out with him???

Hi Dean

Thanks for that, is Rowan taking his car over or tavelling on foot? I have just been looking up the ferries, the cost for a car is ludicrous, I can get to France for that! :? The nearest foot ferry for us is Lymington, but of course that's at the opposite end of the island to you. Perhaps I could arrange to meet up with Rowan, do you know when he is coming?
