XM Prices - rising or falling?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

XM Prices - rising or falling?

Post by SteveLP » Tue Jul 06, 2010 8:32 pm

Has anyone been keeping track of general prices that XMs have been reaching on Ebay? It is a great pity there is no way of finding older prices from ebay (say over the last couple of years).

I know that this is really a type of how long is a piece of string question but I though I'd ask anyway.

Apart from seeing that 2.1 manual diesel crowd are usually willing to pay a premium most other models seem to also be enjoying a slight rise in prices.
Can anyone confirm that later cars 1999-2000 now seem to be more expensive that C5s of the same age.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

I watch the prices, and used to keep a note of really high value stuff for insurance purposes.

But in general prices are on the up. 2.1 Manuals seem to go for good money when they are available.

TCTs are at the cheaper end of the scale, people being put off by the running costs, and many of them sold with blowing exhuast manifold gaskets as well, keeping prices down.

2.5 prices are fairly steady. 2.1 Autos the same, but rising too.

There are very few late cars for sale, and any that are for sale are much more expensive than comparible C5s!

Scrap prices being high keeps the lowest value of a XM around the £150 weigh in mark.

I think Xm prises are rising slowly, probably for a number of reasons, them getting more rare and possibly disirable. Some people prefer the older more simple cars to the more modern complexity of the C5s, not to mention their space and refinement. Given that CXs dont seem to have risen vastly and a good one can be had for reasonable money i dont think there is much scope for the Xm to rise much, but enough to keep them desirable and to outweigh the more expensive running costs would be nice and may keep them on the road longer.

Good ones do fetch good money and if they are kept nice should retain that but the ones at the other end of the scale will die out.
Chris.

I think however much you spend getting an XM into shape, its nothing like the cost of buying or even maintaining a new car. Some models do seem to be increasing in price and are appearing in Classic Cars. The price of 2.1 manuals is definitly increasing but that is proabaly because it is so difficult to find one, they seem to have almost finished now, or at least, Mk2s have.

Good point. Since Citroen pegged the new price of manual and auto Xm at the same price, most buyers opted for auto, because it was perceived as more luxurious and because they could...I did.
