That's probably because a garage has done some work on it !
I wonder how much of the £560 was actually for new parts/items ?

Do you think there really is a value difference between auto and Manual cars? Some people actually want an auto.

Yes! The masses want manuals, not autos, some people prefer manuals to autos and are prepared to pay a premium for them.
I'm in the auto camp, and plan to remain there.

There are also very few manuals about, I prefer them in the interests of economy and longevity.

I prefer autos in the interests of laziness, and ease of use!

Longevity, pah! I have 2 spare auto boxes

I prefer manuals, mainly for the reliability but also the drive too. We recently had problems with an automatic box in our VW, Almost £2000 in repairs, which had it of been a manual, it would not have needed. That has put me right off automatics now. So i for one would pay more for a manual car over an auto.

Definitely for an older car I would be inclined to go for a manual, but the XM 2.1 Auto is also a bit noisy so that swings the balance for me.
My regular use car is only available as an auto and I'm happy with that.
