Pretty sure that the electrovalve on my blue S1 has burnt out due to the usual 12 volt feed mod (over)done by a previous owner.
If anyone has a couple of these that they want to part with then I might try the spring reversal modification on one of them to see how it works.

Hi Steve, depending on what your thoughts are on hydractive sports mode, it may be simpler to modify your existing vavles so that the car remains in soft mode, and not try and undo the modifications previously made.

I take it that you're talking about Mouseflake's old light blue G plate Si?

Yep. the present electrovalve looks fairly burnt out. I just want a spare in case i make a mess of the one on the car or if the one on the car was unserviceable.

Showing my ignorance (extreme ignorance, as I have a G plater as well). Where abouts is the single electrovalve, and whats the difference, if any between it and the electrovalves on cars with 2 electrovalves.

Robert, its under your feet literally! under the drivers footwell, it is mounted to a metal bracket and has a redish orange colour body, it is far bigger than the Hydractive 2 valves which fit directly into the hydractive blocks of course, about the sive of an FDV maybe ever so slightly smaller.

The other thing about the series 1 electrovalve is that it is unique to the vehicle.
So it is one of the key items to recover from a scrap car.
I suppose you could try Citroen for new ones.
A while ago I tried the OE manufacturers web site and found no sign that they still manufacture or hold stock.
Electrovalves are now second after strut heads on my list of key components to keep XM's running long term.

Ahhh, I have never broken such an early car, so I haven't really come across it yet. I have kept some of the electrovalves from my breakers.

Can I ask John, why electrovalves are on your list of essential bits to have in stock? Is it to have working hydractive? I'm being curious. I have read of the bodies corroding on FCF before.

Hi Robert

First choice is always repair to original spec.
Now is probably the last chance to mop up the critical spares from scrappers and dealers clear outs.
My view is simple. While we cannot store everything it would be a pity to let critical bits be crushed.
Particularly as current scrapyard prices can be very reasonable.
It could just avoid losing a car later on for want of those critical items.
My critical list will revolve around 2.5TD's.

I have been told that the later electrovalves, that come in twos, are identical to Xantia ones. Is this correct and are the earlier single valves the same as well? I only ask because there are a lot more Xantias being broken, wonder how many of them are Hydractive? Kit
